Just so long as they don't crash the Yamato into Zordar's Dreadnaught in the end like the original Saraba/"Warriors of Love" did. I would like to see a rebooted Bolar Wars and a continuation/evolution of the other side stories they started. This series is way too good to kill it at the end of the White Comet.

Despite seeing the subtle refinements to the Andromeda I am glad it is at a glance unchanged from it's 1975 version. What particularly interesting is despite this being a redo of Yamato 2 they chose to take a Arriverderci tack to the Saraba and Zodar character designs. Suggests there is interest in seeing these characters brought back in their original Arrivederci flavor. Perhaps giving them a wilder, wreckless, unstable and more uncivilized and dangerous edge?

They've been doing stuff like that from the start - the sub-dimensional submarine type enemy ship shown in SBY2199 was from the 'Bolar Wars' story if I'm not mistaken - but hey it works for me.

Yeah I have been a huge Franken fan since the early 1980's in Yamato III. One of the few excellent characters to come out of that season with Gaidel and Dagan. Ditto on the sentiments on them destroying the ship. Hoping they don't kill everyone and the ship like in Arrivederci. When I first saw that film in 1985 it really was a downer after seeing the second season in English in 1979. Final Yamato wrecking the ship and killing off main characters really killed my love for the Franchise back then. After I saw Final thought I would compensate by trying to like Searching for Odin. Wrong. Pretty...but it royally sucked and hard to stay awake after the start of the movie. Starlight was no standin substitute for Yamato for me. But the music of Loudness was cool.

Best guess is that they will attempt to have the Yamato 2199 line fit in as seamlessly as they can with the Yamato Resurrection film from 2009, meaning the Final Yamato ending at some point. Do to that they might also attempt to tie it in with Yamato 2520 indirectly as the Resurrection film was suppose to be the link between the old Yamato series and Yamato 2520 (but the film was delayed for about 15 years and Yamato 2520 OVA series died on delivery after episode 3). The Executive Producer has stated they want to continue with the Resurrection film series (the first film was labeled Part One at the end), but Yamato 2199 has been way more successful than expected, so that is on the backburner. I imagine that by the time they get to it they'll tie it in with Yamato 2199.

So logically, the events of Yamato 2 should be the ending of Yamato 2202...,more or less. While I also want them to remake Yamato III into a better series than it was, I would also like to see a series made out of the concepts for the Dark Nebula films ("Yamato: A New Voyage", and "Be Forever, Yamato") which were made at the height of Yamato Fever. Assuming Desler survived and is in Yamato 2202 and survives again, I would like to see his story in taking part of the Gamilus Empire in the Milky Way as his own mixed with the events of Earth verse the Dark Nebula Empire. Perhaps still resulting in the destruction of Gamilus and Iscandar and the occupation of Earth. Then follow this series with a Bolar Wars series where Yamato has to deal with Desler's Gamilus Empire fighting a species on the other side of the galaxy that somehow effects Earth directly. Possibly leading into the end result of Final Yamato (rather than remake the film just use it as the ending of the Bolar Wars series in some fashion) If they decide to seed things in advance, they could even show the origins of the SAS from the Resurrection film as species that were formerly occupied by the various Empires crippled by Yamato's actions that have come together in an Alliance of protection.


In direct news, Bandai is releasing a recolor of their first Earth fleet set in 1/1000 scale. The ships are recolored blue and white to match UN colors from the opening episode of Yamato 2202. The ships have been downgraded in classification. The Kongo type battleship is now a destroyers (Yunagi, which is Kodai's ship), the Marusame type cruiser is now probably a frigate (named Intrepid), and the Isokaze type assault destroyer is now an unnamed "Torpedo Boat". I don't know if we will see any of those in the episode or not as they seem entirely too weak even at Pluto. Even if Kodai's brother was able to take on Gamilas ships with one.

If they link 2199 up with Resurrection, then 2520 lineage is almost a certainty, as Resurrection...well...resurrected a lot of the 2520 Syd Mead design aesthetics for the earth battleships and Blue Noah colony ships.

Wow! Looks like Andromeda isn't the only one of her class being built. Plus a couple of variants with some abnormally large bridge super structures. They continue to do an amazing job with this reboot. God bless them!

More likely carrier version of the Andromeda. Based on the fact that the structure reminds me of the fighter bays on the Flagship Blue Noah in the 2009 film.

Notice the six sets of two angle lines on the two ships with the enlarged bridges. Find a shot of the Blue Noah launching a Cosmo Pulsar and you'll see these areas look very similar. That and that Cosmo Tiger I prototype is very similar to the Cosmo Pulsar, makes me think these ships were designed to carry Cosmo Tiger I while the Andromeda would carry the classic Cosmo Tiger II (in its more traditional Yamato like hanger under the engine room).

Also the there are two pairs of ships here. One battleship and one battle carrier, each painted similarly. One set in grey and white with the other in blue and white. The grey and white is just like the older style used in Yamato 2 back in 1978 while the blue and white matched the paint job in the flagship Blue Noah from 2009 as well and the Earth fleet colors in Yamato 2520.

Cosmo Tiger I (Trial production tactical assault fighter)
One of the prototype aircraft which competes as the next-generation primary fighter for the Earth Defense Forces. Since it is a larger craft equipped with a large quantity of weapons and a high-output engine, it was difficult to operate as a carrier-based fighter and was rejected. Akira Yamamoto flies it and trains rookies as an instructor on the moon base.

Cosmo Tiger II (Comprehensive space assault fighter)
The successor to the Cosmo Falcon, whose excellence was proved as Yamato's fightercraft. Equipped with 18 machine guns and normal equipment for high mobility, its performance has dramatically improved. The members of Yamato's flight core train rookies to fly the plane at the moon base.

Murasame-type Space Cruiser Saratoga
Following the basic design of the old Murasame space cruiser, the Earth Defense Fleet equipped this model with a new engine that includes a Wave Core. It is deployed by the space forces of countries around the world, as exemplified by English names such as Saratoga and Defiant.

Kongo-type Space Battleship Yuunagi
As the main battleship of the reorganized Earth Defense Fleet, it follows the basic design of the Kongo-type space battleship, it is equipped with a new engine containing a Wave Core. It is capable of warp travel, is equipped with a new type of space torpedo, and its main battery consists of four 36cm tri-positron shock cannons that reinforce its output. Susumu Kodai is the captain of Yuunagi, unit 47 of the 2nd escort fleet.

Gaizengan weapons group - Calakmul-class battleship*
A heavy battleship of Gatlantis that measures 520m in length. The design concept of its hull is very different from other ships, which characterizes it with unique operating requirements. In addition to the standard rotary turrets, it has a special firing system called a Lightning Strike Gun.

Crustacean Assault Craft Deathvatator**
The main assault fighter of Gatlantis. It is equipped with a rotary beam machine gun (quick-fire rotating turret) on its upper surface. 8 machine guns are fixed on the front of the hull. It is piloted by a crew of three, and carries six air-to-air missiles on its underside, or it can mount a single large anti-ship missile.

Medalusa-class Heavy Annihilation Battleship
This heavy Gatlantis battleship wields a Flame Strike Gun that warps a powerful blast of energy to allow for long-distance bombardment from outside an opponent's range. Yamato met with a similar warship on its return from Iscandar, which has since been mass-produced and deployed with the Gatlantis fleet in large numbers.

** There has been long-standing confusion over the name "Desbatata" for the hermit-crab-shaped fighter. The assumption has always been that it was a misspelled version of "Devastator." ("Des" being a phonetic Japanese version of "Death.") Until further evidence is found, I'll be going with "Deathvatator" in all future texts

That is immense! It's starting to move into 24th century Starfleet scales now. The SBY Wiki has Yamato at 333m - and that's actually longer than the original version, which was only 285.8! I knew the dimensions differed from the original 70's movie and series but I didn't think it was that much. Andromeda is truly a monster. Hopefully it lasts a little longer than the first one did.

It be huge if it wasn't for the Comet Empire's battleships all being 500 meters or longer, and the Gamilas fleet battleships being 730 meters long, with Dessler's big ship being something like 634 meters long.

That really sucks (IMO). I have to wonder if they're really trying to make it so if you want that; you'll need to buy from a U.S Distributor (but is Voyager Entertainment still around as they never finished releasing 2199?)

Still no word on that front. But the first BD doesn't come out until the end of March, and the first theater showing is in 20 days or so. It was around this time, though in the middle of the week that we found out that the first release of Yamato 2199 would have English subtitles.

If they don't have them on Yamato 2202, they best hope their over seas distributor starts working on it soon rather than two years later.

I've preordered the first BD anyway.

Looks like Voyager has been dead for the past 2 1/2 years. They haven't updated their website since August 2014. I agree, I don't think they're in any shape too do 2202 if they haven't even bothered to finish a complete run of 2199.

If somehow they do rise from the ashes and try a run, they need to work hard to re-earn consumer trust.

The end on march? My bad then as I thought the 2/25/17 was the Blu-Ray/DVD release date - but it's the local Theatre showing release date instead. I guess there might be hope as like you I read the description for the 2199 got updated to show the region free had English subtitles included about 3 weeks prior to their release date.

Maybe the same thing will happen with these - meaning we may see a similar thing the first week in March. I hope so, but you'd think they'd announce it as soon as they announced the release date - but they might be shopping for another U.S. distributor, and don't want to undercut their potential sales.

The Comet Empire storyline was always my favorite of the Space Battleship Yamato series though, and if I can't get legitimate HD Blu-Rays with at least English Subtitles from some source, I'll be bummed.

A lot of that is nearly the same as the original film from 1978. And some of that is very, very new.

Also we have at least one more Earth ship name. Space Battlecarrier Antares. Fifth of the Andromeda type ships.

Multiple Medaruusa type ships.

What we use to think of as the old standard Comet battleship is fracking huge. (Not sure what is going on with the one of those coming out of warp).

The huge plate on the Gamulas battleships is not a huge as it looks in some shots. It is probably articulated so they can lower it to fire forwards. That of they've decided the huge battleships make great bait for Magnaflame Guns and use that to distract the Comet ships while the dangerous smaller Earth ships do the work.

To give sense of scale on a mostly Star Trek board, Space Battleship Andromeda is 444 meters long.

This is about the same length as an Akira-class starship, which is shorter than an Excelsior-class starship.

In Babylon 5, 444 meters is the length of an Olympus-class Corvette.

Space Battleship Yamato is 333 meters long, which is pretty much the length of a real world US Navy aircraft carriers of the Nimitz-class, which is just a little bit shorter than the Intrepid-class starships seen in Star Trek or the Drazi Sunhawk type seen in Babylon 5.

The longest ship we've seen so far in Yamato 2199 and Yamato 2202 is the Gamilas fleet battleships of the Zoelguut-class at 730 meters long. This is a little bit shorter than the Dominion battlecruisers we start to see in Deep Space 9 just before the Dominion War starts. There isn't a good Babylon 5 equivalent size, but there is a Star Wars one in the Acclamator-class Assault Ship (Yamato herself is slightly longer than a Nebulon-B frigate, but probably more durable that said frigates.)
