Soundwave is now... (spoiler...)

It makes sense that he can't be a cassette player. I just hope Rumble, Ravage and Laserbeak are in the film.
Laserbeak has to be. Shame he wasn't in TF1, perched on Megatron's frozen shoulder. Question is, what could they the 'beak these days? Laptop, a detachable predator drone for Soundwave's jetmode.

It's funny that a given voice or alternate mode is either right or wrong, given the number of disparate Transformers continuities. Bumblebee in the Bay movie is nothing like Bumblebee from the G1 cartoon, but both Bumblebees are equally right. Regardless of what Soundwave transforms into in the upcoming film, and regardless of whether his voice more closely resembles Frank Welker or Gilbert Gottfried, this Soundwave will be right for Bay's film.

Actually Bumblebee in Bay's film, while a different car, is very much the samer in his personality. I can't really explain why, and I know he can't speak, but I guess his bravery and loyalty and his eagerness to step into danger for the humans, as well as a slight cleverness and wit..it is all there in the film, things he always had in G1. Personality isn't always about what's defineable in words.

What's more, a firend of mine, who is ahuge G1 fan and didn't follow the film's production stories, seemed like he was offended at first when I told him that they changed BB's design.. I mean even his name suggested the car he was..the beatle.. somehow. Yet weeks later when he saw the film he told me that it was really cool and he didn't care one bit that changed the vehicle.. it was still Bumblebee

You know, I actually kind of wish that Bumblebee hadn't regained his ability to speak at the end of the movie. Having him communicate through sound bites from Earth media was a lot more entertaining.

And what of Ironhide? Ratchet? Frenzy?

He's not going to be a cassette player. The Bayformers universe is doing away with Mass shifting, and good riddance. :vulcan:

I'd read that Soundwave was dropped from the first film, because they wanted to take the time to get his voice right.

So I hope high hopes. :techman:

As for his alt modes, I'd read he
a satellite and a jet
.

He'd be better off as some kind of communications van or a sensor plane instead. Makes him more mobile than if he were a satellite.

For the most part, I consider the movie characters to be in no way tied to any predecessor characters with the same names. The Bay films are a clean slate. Aside from Optimus Prime, I don't see much similarity between the G1 characters and their Bay counterparts, and that's fine with me.

What's the big surprise here? After the first film I didn't think anyone was expecting a faithful design.

When do we see a trailer for this anyways?

Some sort of teaser will appear during the Super Bowl.

*Sigh* Unfortunately, according to Bay himself, the teaser will literally do just that and not give much away.

Sadly, I expect another one of those bullshit "tease me with black screens, sounds and words" minimalist spots. I wouldn't be surprised if the only image is of The Fallen with the red eyes that everyone has seen by now.

However, he does state that on the 13th or so, there will be a full teaser trailer, whatever the hell that is.

A quote from Bay: "I personally hate going to movies where you have seen it all [in the trailer]."

I agree! When I first saw the trailer to Star Wars Episode I, and Darth Maul's lightsaber's second blade popped out, I thought that George Lucas had screwed the pooch. That should have been kept a surprise for as long as possible.

Like Jar Jar. Noooooooooo!
