Everyone just stopped caring after a decade of merchandizing; we were indoctrinated as kids to like the film series, but 10 years finally "deprogrammed" us.
The spirit died.
Pretty much. I stopped caring about Star Wars because of two things:
1) Too damn many books coming out all at the same time hopping all over the Star Wars timeline. At this point, the only books/comic books that I care about are the various Star Wars: X-wing books and comic books. If I find any others in a bargain bin or yard sale, I'll pick them up, but I couldn't care less at this point. I've got a Darth Maul hardcover and a couple of other Star Wars books I picked up at a "last chance" bookstore...I haven't touched them since I bought them, which had to have been back in 2004-2005.
2) I was huge on the action figures. But then came one day when I walked into KB Toys and I seriously had no clue which figures I already had and which ones I didn't, aside from army builders (clone troopers, storm troopers, etc.). At this point, my "grand clone army" sits at 30+ clone troopers, but I haven't picked up any new Star Wars figures for at least two years. There's just too many of these things.
I've seen the new Clone Wars show, and I thought that it's neat. I'll catch it if it's on, but I don't really care about it.
As for Fanboys, I'd like to see it, but it isn't playing anywhere near me. I'll probably check it out when it comes to DVD.
