OK but.... gay people don't have it tattooed on their forehead, so the only way you know they are gay is if you are told and shown they are gay. And I don't see a lot of shows pointing out black people, just putting more of them in their productions to make our shows look more like what actual life looks like.
DSC isn't even close to being at the top of my Best Trek List but even Stamets and Culber aren't gay because we're "told" they are, they're gay because that's their characters and they just behave like two adults in a same-sex couple would behave if they shared a workplace with private quarters. So, yeah, I'm not gonna buy it that the most "woke" of all the Trek series is shoving things and screaming in my face.
But of course. That's always the unspoken point.
Showing a straight couple kissing is just normal and obviously doesn't interfere with storytelling. But if a gay couple do it ... OMFG STORY RUINED.
These shows aren't made for you, not anymore. They are simply pointed at a different crowd, and the crowd now is different than the crowd then. Not better, not worse, just different.
TV remote is one of history's greatest inventions.
So is tolerance.
What if they're black and gay? Is that double-bad, or does it cancel itself out?

Complaining about Star Trek showing diversity in the 2020s is like a weapons enthusiast in 1946 complaining that tanks have treads. Dude, you better find the Wayback Machine and reverse course for a few decades because, yo, THIS IS WHAT THESE THINGS ARE.

For millions of people who have been underrepresented on TV and in movies for generations, that is an essential part of their story.
As for the “shoving things down your throat” comment, who exactly is doing that? Are you being held at gunpoint?
For decades, literally decades, straight life has been “shoved down the throats” (to use your term) of everyone who watches TV. Hetero dating, hetero crushes, hetero sex scenes, hetero marriages….as if that’s all that exists.

The fact we have statements like this in 2024, from this fandom, never ceases to amaze me. I mean...... have you not been paying attention at all to what this franchise has to say? Like, not even a little?
