Sony once again gives us reason to stick with physical media...

Sony is erasing digital libraries that were supposed to be accessible “forever”

Casualties afoot as Sony merges Funimation with 2021-acquired Crunchyroll.

How long is “forever”? When it comes to digital media, forever could be as close as a couple of months away.

Funimation, a Sony-owned streaming service for anime, recently announced that subscribers' digital libraries on the platform will be unavailable after April 2. For years, Funimation had been telling subscribers that they could keep streaming these digital copies of purchased movies and shows, but qualifying it: “forever, but there are some restrictions.”

The Funimation one, as I've read, is that they Bought DVD's and Blue Ray Discs, and the thing that went away is the Digital Copy that was sold with it, So, they technically have the DVD Discs, so they technically haven't "Lost" it. Now if they misplaced there discs, then thats not Sony's fault.
Now in the "Fine Print" it says the digital copies could disappear at any time.

This is different from the Sony (HA!) and the Discovery content. They skirted that one because they got the license again and it wasn't deleted.

Honestly, how they solve the Digital Copy that they "Bought" and the library has to go away, then they Email a Link to the digital file, and have it available to download to there PC for a limited time.

If you care about something, buy it in physical media and/or burn it to physical media.

That being said, while I dont advocate it, I feel these companies are setting themselves for an ever-increasing wave of piracy that makes the days of Napster look like holding a microphone up to an AM radio to make a mix tape.

Well, from what I've seen of the fallout from the Funimation closure, and Crunchy price hike is alot of Pirate talk. Now, I'm not one for pirating, and if you can please support the industry,

But Anime is kind of special in a way since for a LONG time, and even now, there were no DVD's of most series, just some cherry picked ones that are super popular etc. Importing from japan was cost prohibitive and the Chinese knockoffs subtitles.. well sucks is a modest word..
Most, you would pirate to just even get a chance to watch it as it was available Nowhere. Now Crunchy started off as a Pirate Group that done there own Subtitles (or stole them from others..) and got righteous and went legal, now there almost the only game in town. Most Anime viewers, like most people in general, would like to support the industry and do it legally, but most do remember how and where to get there series.

I see a LOSS of revenue with the Crunchy price hike as some will pay, but alot will just Shrug and go back to getting it other ways as alot of the fan base doesn't have alot of disposable income.

I am just going to say it.
I know it sounds paranoid (ten years ago I would have said, whoever said what I am about to say now was crazy) but I think they are deleting these things so they can spoon feed you all this LGTBQ/Woke crap, Sorry if that cam out a little hostile, but I am sick of having this crap shoved down my throat

This has to do with companies saving money.

LGTBQ/Woke crap

If you have a problem with this stuff, how did you end up on a Star Trek message board?

Exactly how would that work? What was deleted and what replaced it? I assume everything that's "Straight" is being replaced by "LGTBQ/Woke crap"
I imagine someone in 1965 made a similar complaint when seeing Greg Morris, Nichelle Nichols and George Takei on their TV sets.

Yep, Star Trek was woke before we called it woke.

They never mentioned ( or hardly ever mentioned) their race. It was just taken as fact. The problem I have is insisting that every show has to have someone that is gay, or black, instead of telling good stories. I don’t have to be told a character is black, or gay every ten minutes. Just get on with the story

How does that corellate? Having gay/black/whatever characters somehow gets in the way of telling good stories? Not sure what shows you watch, the ones I watch doen't mention a character's orientation or race that much. That aspect is just taken as fact, just as it was in the past for Sulu, Uhura, Barney and Kinch in the 60s. A lot of it is off hand, like mentioning a wife or husband who's of the same sex. Fairly low key. The "very special episodes" are far and few between. I think Quantum Leap recently did and episode with a non-binary character, but that wasn't the main focus.

I think I must have watched a different set of 800+ hours of Trek (multiple times). I simply can’t remember a scene where a character says “Hi, I’m George and I’m bisexual. You?” Or “Hello there. My name is Jacques. I’m straight.” Or “Look over there, it’s a black woman. I wonder what her intersectional challenges were before she joined Starfleet.”
