Sons of Ajax

After working on the Ajax for rather a while now, I thought I would take some of the elements that I have built and try and add to the collection of ships that I'm building. At the moment I am working on ships from 'Ships of the Star Fleet: Vol 1'.
First up is the Endeavor - initially caught my eye as a candidate since I was intrigued by the intermediate design of the linear nacelles.

I had originally built the Endeavor using a secondary hull based off Charles Casimiro's 11 footer plans - it was pointed out that the design uses the more curvaceous secondary hull favoured by Jefferies and FJ. Once I had built this new version for the Endeavour, I was also able to use it to build the Achernar from the same volume.

Both are still WIPs and there is still some detail to add before I get down to texturing. Still trying to decide how to detail the inner side of the Endeavor's nacelles - the current version is based on a conversion kit for the Polar Lights Enterprise - might be making some additions.

Very nice modelling.
The Franz Joseph-dent on the secondary-hull looks awful though - it always does.

...This is version was made after Ralph McQuarrie's had been rejected as too different from what had gone before...
Oh, not this hoary old chestnut again.

The McQuarrie and Ken Adam renderings and study models were for the aborted Planet of the Titans film, and were abandoned when that project was scuttled. When Phase II happened Jefferies was borrowed back to do a new take on the Enterprise. The former weren't rejected, they just went into the dustbin with the movie that spawned them.

Apologies - I stand corrected - never my intention to rattle old chestnuts. I'll just stick to modeling...

I get them confused myself. But you might want to do the Planet of the Titans next. We have the lovely Edward Teller version, and the study models made it into TNG, but the saucers were rather fat for my taste--as per the McQuarrie art of the asteroid base we saw in ENTERPRISE (Mirror Darkly). Someone here made a nice version but never finished it and had the flatt dam type saucer with the detailed bridge with a central bridge cluster that telescoped upwards--but the McQuarrie painting had a flat saucer with a nice rounded edge:

Perhaps you might like to try that.
