"Sonic wallpaper"

I've heard this issue mentioned around these parts alot - Berman no longer wanting dramatic scores that were the making of episodes like BOBW. Which episode did "sonic wallpaper" begin with? I only ask because I've just watched Final Mission as part of the "episode of the week" and that seemed to have some sweeping melodies. I'd like to learn more about this whole issue.

It started pretty much after Ron Jones was fired. Chattaway took over his slot and produced some decent scores, but Jones/McCarthy's melodic work frequently heard in seasons 1-2 went by the wayside.

Is there a particular episode where it begins or is it more of a transition?

Ron Jones was there almost to the end of season four. I think the music changing was more season 5, 6, 7.
