O?The Original Series was the first series to contradict The Original Series.
How did TOS contradict TOS?
There are plenty of TOS fans out there who do care.

Do you want the whole list? How did TOS contradict TOS?
Sure, why not.Do you want the whole list?
A time honored Trek tradition. The Original Series was the first series to contradict The Original Series.
Sure, why not.
I'm not, I'm a ≥ TNG-era guy. So my knowledge base starts firmly from that era.And that's just off the top of my head.
Now restrain yourself. This isn't an invitation to head canon explanations. These are things that were altered and ignored by the people running the show. Continuity violations. Contradictions. So no head canon will change them.
TNG has a couple as wellI'm not, I'm a ≥ TNG-era guy. So my knowledge base starts firmly from that era.
I'm sure it does, but eventually those get ironed out as well.TNG has a couple as well
More like paved over as was done in TOS.I"m sure it does, but eventually those get ironed out as well.
There was not the expectation for everyone to memorize it like historical fact points.More like paved over as was done in TOS.
We know that the general consensus is that it's "James T. Kirk" when it comes to official canon info & articles on the character.
- Kirk's middle initial changes from "R" to "T"
I haven't watched enough TOS to notice it.
- The ship often changes configuration mid episode
Interesting
- The operating authority for the Enterprise changes several times
I guess the writing staff was still figuring it out at the time.
- The Enterprise changes from an Earth ship to a Federation ship without explanation.
Isn't his father technically still considered a "Ancestor"?
- Spock claims an ancestor married a human. Later retconned to being his father
That one got ironed out pretty fast.
- Spock is referred to as Vulcanian from Vulcanis
We know which timeframe the general Canon of TOS settled on (23rd Century).
- The time frame is given as the 22nd Century, the 23rd Century and the 29th Century
That's news to me.
- Uhura switches from gold to red with out explanation
I believe that was a typo in the script and they eventually settled for him being a Commander while in TOS, right?
- Spock is called a Lt. Commander while wearing a Commander's braid
I never noticed that
- Lithium becomes dilithium without explanation.
"Super Young Prodigy", ::shrugs::
- Pike's age is a bit dodgy. How can he be Kirk's age and be in command of the Enterprise 13 years prior?
You mean Sam Kirk was only mentioned once?
- Kirk has a brother who is never mentioned again after Operation -- Annihilate
That's a problem in most of Trek, not exclusive to TOS.
- Warp speeds are inconsistent
Not a problem exclusive to TOS
- Klingon make up changes back and forth
Either McCoy isn't qualifed in Xeno Physiology or he's only a Human rated Doctor at that time.
- Spock has a "Swiss Army Knife" physiology that McCoy rarely has a clue about
Interesting
- Vulcan mating practices go from a secret to common knowledge.
Thanks! And that's just off the top of my head.
Just kind of unbelievable that Spock would refer to himself wrongly. That one got ironed out pretty fast.
That doesn't negate the show was inconsistent with itself. We know which timeframe the general Canon of TOS settled on (23rd Century).
I 100% agree, but this was in the early days when they didn't have budget / staff / or a dedicated "Lore Keeper" when Star Trek was in it's infancy. That doesn't negate the show was inconsistent with itself.
They forgot is why Kirk gets the "T"We know that the general consensus is that it's "James T. Kirk" when it comes to official canon info & articles on the character.

And they did a great job of keeping most of it straight, especially when things started to get nailed down and the Star Trek universe came into focus. Many hilarious memos were sent behind the scenes to point out contradictions that needed sorting out.I 100% agree, but this was in the early days when they didn't have budget / staff / or a dedicated "Lore Keeper" when Star Trek was in it's infancy.
Well, he kind of died.Sam is mentioned twice and seen once
I'm pretty sure they did.I 100% agree, but this was in the early days when they didn't have budget / staff / or a dedicated "Lore Keeper" when Star Trek was in it's infancy.
