Sometimes you have to speak your mind ~ right?

So I 'copped the hump' at work on Saturday.

I work in the cafe/bar of a Golf Club and on Saturday 'someone' neglected to tell us that there was a tournament on. 40 kids and their parents, brothers and sister, grandparents all descended on us at 1pm.

I had another member of staff 'G' but she buggered off at 2 for that was when she was suppose to go.

So from 2 ~ 4.30 I was on my own. The chap that owns the place was there and I made it quite plain I was not happy, why were we not told? We had little stock, no change and just me to cook and serve the bar and waitress and clear up. If I'd have known we could have planned staff, food, etc. and taken much more money. So he sent up a guy from the pro shop downstairs to help ~ he was 16, couldn't work the coffee machine and not able to serve alcohol! So that did not help AT ALL!

I ended up staying 2 hours later than I was suppose to finish because they had a presentation at 6pm and I couldn't leave the other girl that came in at 4.30 on her own. And from my other thread you may know I was already panicking about having Sis in Law round for the evening.

So basically I left a rant in the handover book and have had a phone call this morning from my boss, who was off this weekend, as they are starting an 'enquiry' into why this occured. I know full well who is to blame, as does the owner. He who is to blame is not a fan of mine anyway and I don't think this will help and I don't care!

I work for minimum wage and do not need this crap.

I did right yes? I may only be a waitress but I'm damned if I'm going to be treated like shit!
[End of rant]

So any other stories of work related complaints and how did they go?

Awwww... K, sorry you had such a crappy experience at work!

The only one i can think of off the top of my head was when i worked at one of the nurseries (i worked in two of them over a period of 4 or so years). I busted my hump there, loved my job, was nothing but helpful and cheerful and would have given my blood for the boss/owner. I adored her and would do anything she asked. But she was a dry drunk with erratic behavior and would often have tantrums, stomping around and screaming at us. And one day i just had enough and quit. I did not deserve to be treated that way and had enough!

I was sorry to leave but i was really tired of coming in every morning not knowing if she was going to be Dr Jekyll or Mr. Hyde that day, and on her Hyde days it was very stressful tip-toeing around her. So i quit and never looked back. I took two weeks off and went to one of the other growers in the neighborhood and was immediately hired. It all worked out well for me.

I hope it works out well for you my dear!! {{hug}}

K - the owner should be very concerned. How many of those people went home with a negative impression of the club because there was insufficient staff around to take care of them? I'm sure they could see that you were doing your best, but one person to take care of all that was just not going to cut it!

That 'error' may very well end up costing the owner $$ in future revenue.

I think it's better to do the confrontation in person rather than on paper, but I can understand your frustration, in any case. You were left holding the bag because others skipped out. That's unfair, but not uncommon in such a setting where people like to diffuse the responsibility.

Thanks Randi, that must have been hell.

I've yet to find a job where I actually like both the work and the people that you work with ~ now that would be perfect :)
The customers I can put up with and mostly enjoy. I like making people happy and 'going that extra mile'.
I chose to work in the service industry and for the most part I like the public and can find my 'happy place' if I get stressed!.

Exactly! Which is the point I'm trying to make to them. I really don't mind being run off my arse, and the people could see I was on my own and doing my best!

But your are right ~ we had a captive audience and could have made a great impression if it had been organised right. After 5 O'clock they only had one chap in the pro shop as well and 100 people around! They could have sold a fortune ~ it makes no bloody sense at all.

To a certain extent I am covering my own arse but also pointing out that there is a severe lack of communication ~ which is just bad management! And the guy whose fault it is needs telling that!

I agree it would have been better to do it face to face. But I'd already told the owner my thoughts and the notes were to my boss. I'm not due in until Wednesday and by then the rage will hopefully have disappated, but I needed to get my thoughts down at that time.

My problem is I do not want to be a manager anymore, but I find it very difficult to not get frustrated when I see things run wrong. And find it hard to leave people in the lurch and bite my tongue!

Anyway, the proverbial shit has hit the fan and hopefully will have landed before I go in on Wednesday!

I must say I find it very odd that you are a manager yet make minimum wage. Exactly what are you getting out of your "manager" title?

I don't think K'Eh is a manager - she used to be. This is what she's doing now, because she doesn't want to be a manager any more.

Then the key would be to not give a shit, I guess. :p

TD is correct. I used to manage bars/pubs etc but having done my fair due, now just gone for the part-time 'come in, do your hours and bugger off' thing.

But I still can't help not giving a shit! And I hate it when things are not professional ~ even when it is just making a bacon sandwich. At £6 an hour I still have some pride :p

[little additional rant]
I expect good customer service and I appreciate it. I like to supply excellent customer service and if I'm not able to supply it you'll either find me in the back of the kitchen with a bottle of wine going 'wibble wibble' or strongly complaining about how we messed up!

This Saturday it was both

I had a friend who worked at a nurserie and her female boss/owner was also a drunk who would just end up past out somewhere round the place. Is working with plants that bad.

Could be the catnip :shifty: I swear this time of year my cat is mostly high as a kite.

This should show them what a valuable employee you are. They owe you a bonus and a raise. :bolian:

Yes,. sounds like you did a very good job given the circumstances. Yoy shoulld be proud. :)

Thank you, thank you *takes a bow* :D Reading it back this morning it does sound like a mad rant and I thank those that took the time to struggle through it and reply :techman:

I do swear it's the painkillers, I'm never normally this grumpy ~ am I? :shifty:

Thing is ~ I don't like being made to look like a pratt through someone elses mistake and if they didn't know that before they do now

Worry not. Gordon Ramsey will be round in just a bit to straighten things out... :)
