Something occured to me about why the ship is more advanced [Spoilers]

Maybe this has been said already, my apologies if so, after watching the third trailer for this movie this just occurred to me. If the alien dude went back in time and killed Kirk's father on the Kelvin, then maybe after that point Starfleet decided to amp up the specs when it built the Enterprise. Perhaps that moment, from that attack, Starfleet saw a big threat out there and decided it needed to really amp up the specs on its next ship to fight this threat, and hence the Enterprise is now more advanced than she was in the original history. Would also be the reason for other changes now in this history of Trek.

So really his idea to go back into the past to alter the timeline, really does alter the timeline, but not what he expected, it might have actually made Starfleet make a more advanced ship now. I could totally buy that if that is what happens and why Trek history will forever be altered. It makes logical sense to me.

Yep. This has already been postulated in this forum.

I'm behind, I don't read all the threads here, they are too long :p

Oh well, didn't think it was a new theory, just occured to me all the sudden while watching the trailer.

I guess another one could be old Spock's influence in the past as well.

There was a roumer early on that we would see a beefed up battleship version of the Enterprise at some point I think (possibly the AICN article), and it spread from there..

Re: Something just occured to me about why the ship is more advanced

well I just write the basics about what's speculated blah blah blah and the science behind it.

(spoiler warning possible spoiler warning possible spoiler warning possible spoiler warning possible)

Ok, time travel basics, often not scene in trek in this form: By certain theories of space and time every time one travels through time either backwards or forwards they do not infact change the events of their timeline, there time continues as it was, they infact arrive in an alternate dimension at the set time where their actions change the events of the future.

This means that Nero and Old Spock are say from our dimension, and created through their actions a new dimension and new timeline . Nero's early attack changed everything, causing the Federation to more concentrate on military advancement and training whilst still keeping the other ethos of federation and starfleet intact. hence the more advanced look.

This also means, the young Spock will not have to grow up to do what the old Spock has done and travel back to stop a Nero, as with the new dimension and timeline, its a completely different old Spock which arrived (our Spock) and possibly sacrificed himself in ramming the Nerada.

In basics, Spock and Nero by their actions created a new dimension with a different history starting from when Nero destroyed Kirks fathers vessel. This is our trek reboot, a new dimension, a new sequence of events happening before some of these characters were born to cause them to all meet together at an earlier and different stage.

The effects to our trek dimension and timeline we know of thus far? Well, in my mind possibly two things Spock's disappeared (and died in the new dimension) and (this is only speculation) the Vulcan in our universe is destroyed by Nero in the 24th century in his hunt for Red Matter, with not yet enough for his mission, he then time travels knowing a new reality will mean if he mines in the past, it will not remove what he has mined from the future. it's essentially a different world.

Oh damn, Brent. A spoiler warning would have been nice. I was 3/4 of the way through your post when I realized by "third trailer" you meant the new trailer and not the superbowl trailer! Gah! Make the new details go away!

I've altered the thread title to indicate spoilers, but I think that at this late date everyone should approach pretty much every thread in the forum as if it contained spoilers.

Re: Something just occured to me about why the ship is more advanced

Idea: the "real" Vulcan is destroyed, cutting off access to advanced technology and a major think tank. Technology regresses to the point seen in TOS.

Looks like the E is going to get the shit pounded out of it, some of the chrome is gonna get flaked so I suspect at least a refit if not a overhaul.

As for the Vulcan we see in TOS and the movies... a major colony becomes the new Vulcan homeworld, one that is less nice than the previous one. One home to a wonky religious order.

Thanks. I'm cool with it now as I just watched the latest trailer this morning, it just caught me by surprise. :D
