Something else that needs to happen, re Spock

Thanks to AI, all of these little oversights on previous Trek shows can be fixed by audio engineers in future releases of the old shows:
  • Sarek will remember Michael in his dotage;
  • The Eugenics Wars will be correctly referenced in "Space Seed" as occurring in the 21st century;
  • And Kirk's crew will no longer appear mystified by the appearance of a known alien predatory species called the Gorn in "Arena."
It's only a few seconds of synthesized voice in a few places. They've got tons of reference audio for Shatner and Nimoy and Stewart and the others. They can probably even get the lips to match up, if anyone thinks that's important enough.

You got to love Bendii syndrome it carefully avoids running afoul of Starfleet mandates forbidding mentioning classified people.

As such, it's not forbidden to mention Discovery crew. If that were true, SNW could not have had a shuttlecraft called Stamets.

As far as the official record is concerned, DSC crew were killed in action. It's permitted to mention them in the past tense. So, for example, Spock could talk about Michael Burnham, but he would have to say that she died in the line of duty.

Why? Chapel may still be around then, considering how long humans can live in Trek.

She was about 10 years younger than McCoy so it's unlikely she was still alive by TNG but they could have been married after STVI and still had 30 or 40 years together.

Chapel dumps him for Korby. Much like some men in our real world, Spock proceeds to shut down all his emotions to deal with the pain. Not sure it's more complicated than that.

I suspect if she does dump him, she is going to do it for his own good.

2AU in diameter?

It's been suggested that the only reason PIcard didn't mention Spock by name was so that Spock's actual appearance at the end of the episode would remain a surprise. I'm down with that. :shrug:
Yeah, you've gotten things confused. The reference to Picard attending the wedding of "Sarek's son" was not in Unification but rather in the episode Sarek. Indeed, here's the transcript from Sarek to prove it, and here's the quote in question:
RIKER: I remember studying his career in school. The treaty of Alpha Cygnus Nine, the Coridan admission to the Federation, the Klingon Alliance.
PICARD: I met him once, many years ago, very briefly at his son's wedding. I can tell you that was quite a moment for a young lieutenant, standing in the presence of such history. I remember he spoke to me and I just stood there grinning like an idiot
There was no attempt to avoid mentioning Spock in Part 1 of Unification in order to make his appearance at the end a surprise. Spock is mentioned quite often by name throughout the entire episode, to say nothing of the fact that the episode starts off with footage of Spock on Romulus and Leonard Nimoy is listed in the episode's opening guest credits. Take into account the heavy promotion that went into the episode revealing Spock's appearance and no one was surprised when Spock showed up at the end.

I wonder if this will be the next upgrade for TOS? I would love to see the CGI upgraded again in line with SNW as well, including bringing the uniforms and the bridge more in line with what we see in SNW. I don't know how much of a market there is for this, though. It would be a fun experiment for a few essential episodes at least.

We're at 2 seasons per in-universe year (Season 2 is still 2259 per dialogue referencing the Rigel mission). At this rate, it will be another 10 years before we're anywhere near 2265, and I doubt SNW will run that long (the longest Trek shows topped out at 7 seasons, albeit season lengths were much longer then)

Solo shot first.

By the end of SNW I would prefer WNMHGB Spock or early TOS Spock.
