Apparently there's a sudden political swing in the US... to the middle. Worse, it's being supported by the sort of amused sarcastic humour one would normally expect from Brits.

Apparently this guy (Job Stewart) is trying to organise some political rallies before the forthcoming US elections and is urging people to support with such wonderful placards as:

"I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler"

"9/11 was an outside job"

"I'm not afraid of Muslims, Tea Partiers, Socialists, Immigrants, Gun Owners or Gays ... but I am scared of spiders."

"Take it Down a Notch For America"

This approach to calm, reasonable debate without hype, paranoia or even clippings from the daily mail is so unutterably refreshing I can't help but wonder...

what would it cost to get this guy posting in TNZ?

I like to think both of them are already there - Colbert usually posting pictures of Jewel Staite and Stewart trolling people about the invasion of the lizard-people and the 2012 apocalypse. ;)

Ha! He'd have to be doing something like that if he's there. Otherwise he'd get pretty bored with nothing but all the references to himself to entertain him.

I wouldn't be surprised if either of their people were either posting or lurking in TNZ already.

I wouldn't exactly call Jon Stewart middle-of-the-road, but he's probably the closest thing we've got in the media-- him and Bill Maher. I've liked the guy ever since he went on CNN's Crossfire (possibly in a drunkl state) and told both of those mealy-mouthed pussies that they are the problem in America. I hope his call to moderation yields some results; I am sick to death of this Dark Age of Extremism that we live in.

I agree completely. I agree with what Stewart says, in that 70% of Americans are the reasonable middle who believe that neither G.W. Bush nor Obama are Hitler or the Devil. The very loud people at both extremes of the political spectrum tend to keep important issues from being discussed in a useful, rational, and sensible manner, IMO.

Job Stewart? never heard of the guy. Thanks for the link.

And really, I'm Bob Newhart.

No, really, I'm... I'm Bob Newhart.

Or at least they could be reasonable if the political jabbering in the media didn't drive them insane.

He went through a lot to get on the air. A lot.

The Daily Show should be classed as a National Treasure.

So should Colbert, but only if Ben Gates tries to rescue him (and there's yer 3rd film right there).
