Some Trek fans are [Possible SPOILERS]d about the Secrecy

1bulma1

Lieutenant Commander
So I just visited trekmovie.com which is perhaps the most active trek site on the internet and the fan boys are pissed off at JJ and his crew for keeping everything hush hush.

I mean should it matter now...JJ and his crew have already given us enough clues about this new film examples of this includes:

Spock prime been back
Alice Eve is a new character
Kirk gets a love interest
There are Klingons
Khan is Present
Star Trek Ongoing series is canon to the 2009 and 2013 film.

I think that is more than enough

it will be ridiculous to see a trailer now.

The film is still 1 year away...I think trek fans can be patient. I mean its not like the new film is a book adaption. why do people feel the need to know the plot now.

JJ Abrams is following the footsteps of Christopher Nolan which is to never give too much away before the film is released...not even in the trailers.

I think people have been spoiled by spoliers. I grew up in an era where you didn't even know anything about a movie until you saw it in the theater.

If he told them everything, and allowed script drafts and footage to be leaked, they'd still be pissed. So what's new? :vulcan:

Nobody at school spilled the beans to you about a movie?:p

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

JJ is known for being secretive.

Same here. I remember that time well.

What gets me is that everybody now are afraid of spoilers for some odd reason. First of all, in this "information age" they're practically impossible to avoid, and secondly, it's not like we're not gonna see the episode or movie in question 900 billion times anyway, so what the hell is the big deal?

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

Frankly if it's a movie I strongly want to see, (The Hobbit comes to mind), then there seems to be little point in spoilers other than to tell me things I might prefer to be surprised by.

I avoid seeing trailers for movies I'm strongly interested in because I didn't care to see any cool parts of the movie in the abstract. I want to see them for the first time as part of the narrative of the film. It doesn't matter how many times I'll see it after the first time, the first time is still unique.

Or, like, if it's based on a famous book.

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

Reminds of me Apple's reputation for secrecy when it comes to it's unreleased products. At least the script for Trek XII hasn't gone missing in a bar?

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

You should never, ever read the fan responses at Trekmovie. Those obsessive/compulsive nut jobs make the worst JJ Abrams hater at the TrekBBS look like a PhD in comparison.

Word! :techman:

Couldn't agree more. Reminds me of of what I think...Julie Ekard (ST author) said on a special edition of one of the ST DVD's. Speaking about the complaining fans-while she and her generation had to wait years with no info and no world wide web to satisfy her interest.;)

Love your new Avatar-your pointing as to sat-Hey, I WAS THERE!

Oh, I think your being a little cruel, they are just anxious.

Oh c'mon on, how many Trekmovie fans do you actually know. Yes they are impulsive, but they are part of the base and they are just being advocates.
Like neighbors you find amusing-but only in limited exposure :p

Like people at the TrekBBS, their opinions are in no way indicative of the people who actually go see the movie.

Ah, thanks. Almost missed your comment. It was buried in the quoted section.

It's me with an original Tuttle & Bailey licensed Filmation cel from the animated "Star Trek" episode, "Yesteryear". Known infamously as the "Six-Fingered Spock" scene (count 'em!), the cel was sold in the early 80s. I can't quite do the same action. Insufficient digits.

The lower pic is an enlargement of a page from DC Comics' "Star Trek" Series II, issue #1 (1989), before M'ress the Caitian had to be redrawn as M'yra the antelope woman. The two small colour shots in the frame are Skybox trading cards of M'ress in TAS.

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

I don’t mind the secrecy...sometimes I think it works best. a perfect example is the recent avengers film.
in the trailer everyone saw hulk catching iron man at the end.

When I was watching the film and I saw tony fall from space I knew hulk was going to catch him and that sucked since I already knew what was coming.

I wish that has never been in the trailer.

I hope trek doesn’t fall into the same pit....it best to get the surprise when you are watching the film in cinema.

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

I prefer not to know everything that happens in a movie. Doesn't matter what it is. I know when the movie starts next year, I'll be very excited about - as I'll be taken on some unexpected ride.

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

Let JJ be secretive. The speculation's been fun. If it turns out my crazy theories about the movie are correct (Khan found by Klingons after Daddy Kirk's death, he's practically running the Empire now, Peter Weller is Gary Seven...) I will be insufferable for weeks.

Now, where's the fun in being told everything that happens and how?

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

Seal yourself in an accident-proof shack, like the end of the first Final Destination film. And... wait. Come out one year from today and head for the cinema!!!

Re: Some Trek fans are pissed off about the Secrecy

OMG ONE YEAR FROM TODAY.

:: pants ::

I'm not getting on any planes, that's for sure.
