I couldnt see another thread about this, and didnt really want to put my spoiler laden thoughts in the thread discussing only the extracts of the book from Star Trek magazine as it seemed wrong.
My copy came today, and having read it, I liked it. Though it didnt seem as long as I thought it might have been, so I managed to zip through it in a few hours.
I liked how it showed the aftermath of the Borg invasions, showing how desperate the situation was for the Federation in many areas. I hadnt realised this book was set before "A Singular Destiny", and I had, at the time, thought that book hadnt really shown the aftermath enough, choosing more to focus on the introduction of the Typhon Pact, but I think that book reads better now, knowing this book deals with the stuff I expected SD to deal with.
Having liked Trys Chen from the moment I read her in Greater Than The Sum, I felt sorry for her about her mother.
I'm still not a huge fan of the Choudhury character, so I couldnt bring myself to overally care about her stuff, but it wasnt bad.
And, for a moment, I actually thought Picard would accept the promotion to Admiral he was offered at the end. I had visions of him chilling on the Enterprise with his new rank, darting around the Federation helping alleviate the crisis. But I suppose he'll never accept such a thing.
Good book.
