Some of these...

The first item is not entirely true. Siddig had been considered for Sisko, but he was neither the primary or leading choice for the role. Indeed, Siddig says that he had the part until he arrived in Hollywood, which would means he was hired sight unseen--a bit preposterous, IMO.

So glad they skipped the musical idea. I didn't even like the purple monkey dishwasher episode that much. I don't know if there would have been any coming back from jazz hands.

I've seen a webcomic that did that exact musical idea. It's one of those heavily serialized comics that started out as a comedy that exploited scifi tropes and became more and more serious action-drama as it went along while still exploiting the same scifi tropes. Seriously there's a ton of them, they all wish they were Sluggy Freelance. They all started in the mid to late nineties and half of them are still going. I think it was like, a siren who feeds on singing and gives people an irresistable urge to express their feelings through song. This one was called Faans.

Yeah, works for comics like that, wouldn't work for Star Trek. Maybe Stargate.

I'm imagining Rene Auberjoinois walking home in full Odo makeup before anybody saw DS9.

- From what I heard was that the producers saw him in a play in old age makeup and thought he would be good for the role. Then changed their minds when they realized he was really in his 20's when he came out for the tests.

Berman saw him in some TV production and immediately wanted him for Sisko, not realizing just how young he was until Siddig arrived. So, yes, it's true.
