Some Free Advice to Roberto Orci .....

Tulin

Vice Admiral

I'd stay off the internets for a few days mate.

It aint gonna be pretty and your feelings might get a little bit hurt.

Oh and I'm sure it's all got something to do with the government and conspiracies.......or something?

:rommie: :techman: :guffaw:

I hope he takes your advice as people can be unnecessarily cruel. Just because he's a hack and a conspiracy nut, doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings.

He's been sacked as director of ST III.

Internet fanboys LOATHE him and are going to dancing around fires tonight, burning effigies of Orci in celebration. Orci has a track record of personally responding to rants and accusations online. To preserve his feelings, he may wish to go off the grid for a week or so and just head to the hills and wait it out.

Obviously Paramount wants another Star Trek:Nemesis on their hands going to with dirst time director who's not familiar with the material.

Acquaint yourself with the particulars of Mr. Orci's career here, and face the fact that you're trying way too hard to gloat at the expense of a guy who's currently one of the most successful people by far in the movie and TV industry, has been for years and will certainly continue to be for quite a while to come.

Losers' spirits rise and fall by what people on the Internet think. Guys like Orci just go make another movie; another TV show.

Nice try, but he's not the one who's being embarrassed in this threat.

So, despite your advice being "free" I think Roberto's due some kind of refund here.

I'm sure it stings to lose Star Trek 3. Everyone has pride. But I'm sure he'll be able to get over it quickly with his millions of dollars and sleeping with beautiful people.

If he wants people to care about him, he should show a little more class in how he handles himself online.

Spin it any way you like, but he got canned in a very public and humiliating way and that's not going to go down as the highlight of his career.

It's hard to pick who to side with here. An action movie writer who was hired to write a non-action franchise that is dear to me and wrote it like an action movie, or an interfering network. Which is the lesser of two evils?

I guess it all depends who they replace him with.

The series the films are based on (aka Star Trek the Original Series) was very much an action adventure show.

I had no confidence in Orci as a director and Edgar Wright would make for an amazing replacement, but the supremely petty schadenfreude displayed by some people in this thread is hideous. For one thing, it's unclear who made the decision or why, and whether Orci himself ultimately decided to step back. So far, there's only been rumor and speculation. I doubt Orci is crying himself to sleep right now, given his career. It's evident that some people in this thread probably have been, though.

You think he's the only director ever to be fired?

For genre, perhaps you can ask Richard Donner about being fired from Superman II

Jeez. it's uncertain whether he was fired or whether he resigned.

Give the guy a break. He seems like a nice guy.

As for the 'net, well hell, just remember, at the end of the day, he's someone and working on films and we're - well Trek geeks spouting off on a message board and rather unimportant in the scheme of things.

I think he'll survive quite well. ;)

You think he's the only director ever to be fired?

He probably does think that.

On the most disappointing day of his life you can bet that Orci's enjoying himself and his success more than his detractors on the best day of theirs. Cheering because you think that a stranger has experienced a failure is small and pathetic; enumerating the ways in which "they deserve it" would be deluded and arrogant to boot.

BTW, since mos6507 went out of his way to personally inform me that I'm on his ignore list I'm beyond entertained to find him quoting me.
