Spoilers Some Details about Burnham

I should add that assuming a woman is trans because she has a traditionally male name shows a severe misunderstanding of trans people.
By no means was I assuming, nor expressing any opinion on it. The producers/creators may have cast Sonequa's character as transgender to be progressive or they might have just given her the name Michael as a woman. Unless it has been confirmed (which I didnt know and thus asked), I also am not assuming how the show creators have cast her. I don't have a problem either way - and don't assume my sexual orientation because it might surprise you :)

Transgender is not a sexual orientation.

It also hasn't been confirmed because it was purely speculation on this board by people who don't understand a single thing about transgender people.

People also have nicknames or variations of their name they actually use. Like with her it could be Mikah or something(which is not uncommon with female versions of the name Michael).

Also, I think its a mistake to base a show in a single person. It's only natural to base it on a group of people and in time I'm sure this is going to happen cause there is simply no other way to do it in a satisfactory way. Saru, Lorca, Landry, Nambue, Burnham will all interact alot whether or not it's through Burnham's perspective. And they will factor in greatly for the success of the story.

Also imo, progressivelly we will just have to see plot points were Burnham is not seen at all, cause this will be the need of the story(e.g. crewmember that has to infiltrate an alien installation while Burnham is doing something else) Even when the Captains were on the focus, this naturally happened before. And for a succesful series, it shouldn't really matter or be an issue that it happens.

I completely agree. I am worried to that they will focus too much on her and underdevelop the other characters and spend too little time exploring relationships between other members of the main cast

Well, at least some good news coming from Discovery. I find that emotionless/logical characters are always the most interesting to follow. I welcome the Vulcan twist.
