Some Confirmed Details On The Casting For ST film

As far as I know, Nick Meyer wasn't responsible for casting the actors who originally played these characters. :p

Guessing that's not what you meant, though.

I'd be surprised if we see anyone but Kirk and Spock in XI. The rest will have to wait for future films/TV series. They will have their hands full just doing a proper introduction of the new actors so we will accept them as those characters. Don't bite off more than you can chew.

However, I do have some recommendations:

Kirk - Eion Bailey
Scotty - Paul McGillon
Uhura - Gabrielle Union
McCoy - Gary Sinese, if he isn't too old compared with the others
Chekov - Sean Maher
Sulu - James Kyson Lee (sorry, he's Korean, but he's already playing a Japanese character so he can "pass" - besides he's friends with Greg Grunberg, and we all know that's a prerequisite... ;))

Going further afield...

Pike - Jensen Ackles
Christine Chapel - Lake Bell
Janice Rand - if she won't be needed for a few years, maybe Hayden Panetierre

Except, why was Spock cast ahead of everyone else?

The exact right guy happened to be right in front of their faces. The others will be more of a challenge (especially Kirk!)

I just noticed this detail about Kirk!

6 ft or less

Hah, I thought I was being absurd in my insistence that Kirk be noticeably shorter than our 6'4" Spock. ;)

Quick IMDB check...

Eion Bailey, 5'11"
Michael C. Hall, 5'10 1/2"
Michael Trucco, 6'3" oops he's out, eh, long shot anyway...

Nope. I was simply referring to a person missing from the list.

Uhura - Gabrielle Union
She's the first actress that came to my mind when I tried to think of someone to play Uhura. She would be a perfect casting choice.

The age might not be quite what they're looking for, but everything else is right on.

Just checked imdb, good gravy, she's 35? She's young-looking!

Anyway, if that's too old (we all know Hollywood, she's ready for a rocking chair ;)), another nominee could be Dana Davis from The Nine - she also looks very young but graduated from college in 2001, so that would place her in the right age range.

Davis just got a gig on Heroes for S2, but I think it might only be a recurring character...anyway they like to kill people on that show...

First of all: AICN ,need i say more LOL

Yes, you do. People can be as snarky about sites like www.aintitcool.com as they like, but substituting that for analysis of what's in front of them won't make it untrue if it's real, or true if it's not.

There are a lot of fan-run sites out there hyping various projects with degrees of misrepresentation that make AICN look rock solid by comparision, and you know what they say about folks who live in glass houses.

One thing we can be sure of: Sulu is mentioned on the casting sheet, so Takei will have a public statement by tomorrow. It may mention the "Captain Sulu" television series. ;)

Why is Uhura suddenly an "African-American" woman?
Could just be referring to auditioning actresses. I mean, it says "Must be able to do a flawless Scottish accent!" for Scotty, and obviously he'd be able to do that. :p

Kirk: American
Shatner: Canadian

Uhura is African, but I don't think they'll bother to import an actual African. There is no shortage of local talent.

I think McGillion would make a good Scotty as well, here is a photoshop I did using a couple pics posted by a user on trekmovie.

Some of these characters may have brief roles. We heard the story covers different time periods. Not just the Old Spock parts.

So maybe we see Kirk and Spock over a period of time in their 20s. Which is why the cast range for Kirk is wide. Looking for someone who can play him believable at different ages.

With the younger crew members, like Uhura and Sulu, only appearing in scenes were Kirk is older and already Captain.

^ I think many of these characters will have brief roles. This isnt going to be an ensemble piece al la TNG. I'd be suprised if Uhura, Sulu & Scotty have more lines than your average TOS episode...

However, it will be cool when the actress playing Uhura says:

"Hailing frequencies open"

You just know that line is in the script. :D

I've never seen him act but there's definitely a good resemblance. Nice photoshop btw.
