So who do you think should get those roles?

Interesting. So from the ages given, it does seem like the movie won't be set during the 5-year mission, but some years earlier. That I don't like so much....

If Kirk is between 23 and 29 it's before he made captain. That or they've lowered the age that he becomes captain.

I think that should read "especially if it's being fed to you by Harry Knowles."

There are some seriously weird age issues in that, yeah. Ludicrous, in fact.

[JAMES KIRK] Jensen Ackles
[LEONARD(BONES)MCOY] James Caviezel
[UHURA] Zoe Saldana
[SULU] ?
[MONTGOMERY SCOTT] ?, need to be older 35-40

Quinto turned 30 in June. While actors can play a range of ages, his age is probably a better indicator of when the movie is set than the odd ranges in the AICN blurb.

The age of the actor doesn't have to match the age of the character but judging by those ages, he'd be firmly twenties. Somehow it's easier to get someone in their 30's to pass for their 20's than the other way around.

They probably want an actor who's old enough to play Kirk becoming a captain but young enough to still pass for a lieutenant, if they show different points of Kirk's early career. Assuming all of this is true.

This sounds great.

And yeah, I believe it.

And notice that Sulu and McCoy are described as Enterprise crew. That tells us worlds about the time period and setting.

Way cool.

I'm leaning towards "true" myself. Except, why was Spock cast ahead of everyone else?

I think it might have been a special case of JJ Abrams wanting to make sure Leonard Nimoy approved of the casting of the younger Spock ahead of time as a sign of good will. If Nimoy-Spock is integral to the frame-work that JJ Abrams wants, then he'd have been apt to go that extra mile.

First of all: AICN ,need i say more LOL

Second, we knew they were going to recast anyway so no big news there, although this does tell us what cast (if true) will be in the movie.

I for one am more intrested in the other casting to see if you have people like Pike or other secondary characters from TOS, that way it may give you some more clues to the plot.

The age of the characters does not mean it's before the 5-year voyage. It just means they are looking for younger actors to play the roles. Remember, this is a reimagining.

Would like to see Pike and Mitchell myself.

 Sulu is called "helmsman" in the excerpt quoted by the OP. Am I missing something?

I find it odd that Kirk is lined up to potentially be the youngest in the cast, and yet is supposed to be, or will be within a few years, captain over all these people? I always assumed Uhura and Sulu at least were younger.

Using a word like "confirmed" with Ain't It Cool News is like using "World Series contender" to describe the Kansas City Royals.

That being said, is this movie supposed to be the entire TOS crew? I would've preferred just a Kirk-Spock-McCoy-maybe Scotty show.
