So. Will Viacom/CBS sell the Star Trek franchises?

"Why is it people who post these 'rumors' can never cite sources? Where are these rumors going around? What are their sources? Are there any beyond the fever dreams of haters and YouTube channels desperate for more clicks?" Victor Von Doomcock. (DoomCock)? I know that certain newer members think that the new ST shows are "The Tribble's anus" (or the "Bee's knees"?), because they are so "modern", and "edgy". (lol) That's NOT entirely your fault, It was your upbringing, and teaching.

A. I've been on this board since 1999. I'm not one of the "newer" members. I'm one of the first members.

B. I like older Star Trek, and I like the newest Star Trek, it's the stuff in the middle that I'm so-so on.

C. Anyone who's gone to college knows that when they write something, they have to cite a source. That's why they have bibliographies at the end. Anyone who goes to a court of law knows they have to cite evidence. That's what elevates a case beyond "my word versus yours". But, on a more basic level, it's proof that you're not just making things up.

D. "Rumor has it... " You can say something juicy about anything.

I still think the ultimate goal is a “Star Trek channel” which will come about when all the current deals to stream all the old shows and movies end. With that library and 3-4 new shows churning a combined 40 weeks of new Trek a year, they’d have no trouble selling it for 6 bucks a month to millions worldwide. Maybe even add “associated” programming like the other Roddenberry pilots and related science shows.

I can't help but notice that rather than actually answer my question about your sources, you instead spewed this word salad and insulted people who like current Trek. It's even stranger that you didn't take the time to notice that you joined less than a month ago while I've been here eighteen years. (Which, wow. It seems like just yesterday people were complaining about the Akiraprise.)

I’m not quite sure what the point was of this obviously-cut-and-pasted rambling diatribe, but I get the impression that you’re trying to insult us. That’s not the smartest behavior for a newbie and will not get you very far here.

So there's a replicator somewhere that generates a new Prophet of CBS All Access Doom every few weeks and sends them out to the unfaithful with these dire prognostications. They generally have a predictable half-life before they start to destabilize rapidly or fade into harmless isotopes.

There is a rumor going around that because of various reasons, Viacom/CBS might sell The Trek franchise. That would mean no more "Discovery". or "Picard". It almos might mean that Kurtzman would lose his job.
Anyway, what's it to you if they sold Star Trek to someone else? You don't seem to like anything passed DS9. So if it went somewhere else, you'd be stuck with the same "problem", just under different people.

And if you're a fan of DS9 and not of "this generation", then you were around in the '90s, and you certainly remember that "dark" and "edgy" and all of that stuff was leveled against DS9 too. Don't say it wasn't. If you were a fan back then, you know it was. And we can't forget about "too gritty".

File this under troll-driven sludge.

Do you have any idea how profitable Trek is for ViacomCBS?? $200 million a year in merchandising (one of only 30 franchises in the USA that make over $100 million a year), Beyond made more than ANY of its films in 2016, the new CBSAA series were profitable before they even aired!!
