So. Will Viacom/CBS sell the Star Trek franchises?

Theoretically speaking, if DIsney also had Star Trek, do they think they'd let LucasFilm create their own crossover? Like nothing canon, like some silly childrens thing, or an elseworlds style comic.

Don't even think about that... Considering how badly Disney has handled Star Wars - there's no way they could handle Star Trek, let alone a cross-over.

As to selling Trek - the ONLY way that could happen is if that's the only way to keep the company afloat. It would have to be a panic move on their part.

Star Trek can live on fine as well. As in, "I would be fine with Disney owning Star Trek."

No matter who owns it the rumors will persist and the complaints will never end..

Even without new productions, the franchise still makes CBS/Paramount a lot of money just from licensing alone.

I would say that is accurate. Fine, not well. Star Wars can live on “fine,” but I am not sure Star Trek could.

How do you define "fine"? There are six shows in various stages of production. What else would you like them to do?

Obviously that will always be a matter of perspective. They have done a very good job at butchering or upending almost all of the tropes surrounding the lore that is (read: was) Star Wars. While I do think that The Mandalorian is excellent, I think it is excellent because of it's hearkening back to the sources that originally influenced George Lucas. I've hung up my proverbial lightsaber, so I don't really want to argue about Star Wars anymore. I would only note that I am not one of those "fans" who has a problem with Daisy Ridley or any of the other new stars, my problems are how they treated the lore and the universe as a whole.

I do not want that to happen to Star Trek. If Disney can stumble over the medium-height hurdle that is Star Wars then I don't want them anywhere near the high hurdle that Star Trek is to me.

Disney has done a fine job with The Mandalorian. I'm think Star Trek would be a better fit for Disney anyway.

I don't see them stumbling, but even so, Star Trek is a far more flexible platform.

And expose them to facts? Don't be crazy. These rumors are obviously true because we just know they are and don't question it because Gene Roddenberry would not approve of you questioning things. That is the true vision of Star Trek-all hail the Great Bird.

***if it isn't obvious this is heavily sarcastic.

I’m just so confounded how this thread has gone as long as it has given the absolute zero proof of the claim (and, given the facts, that the claim is preposterous). But, I suppose we do all like to dream of things that could be.

How would this even work? Trek is now established on CBSAA and is a major part of the platform's success. Selling it would result in many fewer subscriptions. Who would buy it? Disney? Not many other players in the movie / streaming markets. Selling IP like that would be easier when it didn't actively have series in production and in development and a movie in development.
