So, who put the asphalt chunks behind the bulkheads?

Well, they visit all these planets so they must be taking rock samples that have to be stored somewhere, so why not in the ceiling above the bridge?

Probably the same designers who built the hovercrafts in The Matrix, who thought putting eight foot lengths rebar where the airbags should be was a cute idea.

Kidding.
But I've noticed, for whatever reason, the show likes to show clumps of black-rock looking things falling from the ceiling or exploding from the walls. On episodes like Damage it looks pretty ridiculous.

Don't know if you had any thoughts on this.

It really does look like chunks of broken up blacktop onscreen, though.

umm, yeah. this phenomenom has angered my bunghole for some time. I finally figured it out though...

in the future, lots of stuff will have ceramic components. I'm pretty sure that's what these 'asphalt chunks' are.

Can't have been trellium. We saw the same thing on Voyager countless times.

and on DS9 and TNG.

Maybe the plumbing runs right behind the bulkheads and it was petrified poop or something.

you said "poop".

that's not what this stuff is though. we learned from Trip that poop is recycled and made into boots.
