So who here has downloaded and tried the new Google browser named Chrome? I'm using it now. Though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as firefox 3 it seems to perfrom pretty well and is not annoying like safari for windows. So check it out when you get the chance.

I just downloaded it and am using it. FeedJit shows it as me using Safari, interestingly enough, so I wonder if that means that it is using Safari base code in some way.

I've had some problems... Wikipedia won't load (whereas I can get my IE window to open it) and TrekBBS took three tries to open... so perhaps it needs some time to adjust.

I'll have to give it a bit of a longer-term use to determine if I will keep using it, but it I do like the interface for some reason.

Chrome uses WebKit as its rendering engine, which was originally developed for Safari.

I downloaded Chrome a few hours ago but haven't gotten around to testing it yet.

(There are also two threads in Misc. if you'd be curious to see other thoughts as well.)

I am also finding myself having trouble loading pictures. Even CNN isn't loading right.

I'm waiting for the FF folks to tell us what it's good for.

For me, I'm still wondering what to do with IE8 Beta 2.

WebKit was originally developed for KDE under the name KHTML, and later popularized by Safari.
Ah, thanks for the correction. All I know about WebKit is what little I read about it in the Google Chrome comic and then a very brief skimming of one paragraph at Wiki.

One of the guys in the office downloaded it today, and I took a look at it for a couple of minutes.

I'll probably download and install it on a VM in the next couple of days to give it a better look.

That's odd. I'm having no problems on any of the sites you mentioned.

Earlier YouTube loaded as text only, not even frames or whatever they use for style, but now it is loading fine.
CNN had no pictures, but now it does.
It took me three reloads of JesusManifesto.com to get images there.

Not sure, perhaps it's just on my end... but my IE7 is loading everything just fine.

But IE does a way lot more than Chrome, as far as I can see. But it is a hog, too much for my weak little machine.

IE8 is a lot fancier and a lot more capable.

It doesn't matter how capable the software is if you can't run said super-special features on your machine at a reasonable speed.

I always thought that "fancier" and "more capable" are not necessarily going to go together when you are talking about web browsers. "Fancier" in this case usually means "bloated".
