So, who else dismantles their keyboard to clean it?

Wow. what do you guys do to get your keyboards so dirty? I've had this computer for 8 years and the only thing I've done to clean the keyboard was to dust it off with a cloth once or twice.

I really ought to clean out the gunk under the laptop keys, but frankly I can't be bothered. It still works, so sod it.

I mean...really.
When the cigarette ash starts piling up, I just vacuum my home keyboard.
The one at work...It contains the remains of years of lunches. There is a splash of yoghurt on the 'enter' key. So.what.

If nothing else, it will mean we're teh only two who won't starve if we ever get trapped in our houses and run out of food.......

Then there's a good chance you've got all kinds of grit hidden under the keys. The thing make look clean from the top, but you'd be surprised what might be hiding in there.

Nope, I don't dismantle it. I occasionally turn it upside down and slap the bottom to shake the dust and crumbs out. A friend describes it as burping the keyboard. LOL And then I wipe it off w/ pre-moistened lens wipes (those little alcohol things for cleaning eyeglasses). Use a wipe on the mouse and mouse pad, too. Thanks for reminding me to do it today -- it had been way too long.

BTW, those of you who speak so casually of buying new keyboards and mice instead of cleaning them... please consider the well-being of our home planet and spend a few minutes (that's all it takes!) cleaning the old ones instead.

I have a ten year-old Microsoft Natural Keyboard. I dismantle it about once a year, vacuum out the hair and food particles and the like.

I love this keyboard, it's like second nature to me, and Microsoft doesn't manufacture one exactly like this any longer. So I clean it, coax more life out of it, and away I go. Even if some of the keycaps are unreadable and worn down now, after a decade of use.

I hear ya. Attached are my two keyboards. The first is the one i've loved for years, and broked yesterday after my cleaning.

The second is my backup from my last job... I like, but the space key has always pissed me off so I don't like it as much.

When you said your type of keyboard wasn't made anymore I figured it was the "natural" kind. I had one for a while, took me awhile to wean off of it, break down, and get a normal keyboard.

The keys don't come off, but it's waterproof so it's very easy to clean.

But yeah, when I used regular keyboards I would disassemble them to clean them.

Oh, wow, like the roll-up piano keyboard in "Lessons"! That's what I really want!

Whenever I go back, I get wrist pains within days. So I'm 'stuck' with them.
