So when will they destory the Enterprise?

Things being what they are, there's a continual need to up the action / energy. In the TOS series movies, they beat up the TMP "E" in movie 2, and destroyed it in movie 3.

In the TNG series movies, they just went ahead and destroyed her in their movie 1.

So what's your opinion? Clearly TOS/"R" didn't destory her in movie 1, they more or less went after everything else... 47 Klingons, the Kelvin, the fleet sent to Vulcan, Vulcan, almost earth.

I don't think this Enterprise will ever be destroyed. They'll just upgrade her until she'll eventually look like a new and improved ship after awhile.

Oh wait...

In the last movie the writers wanted to destroy her but Paramount asked kindly not to do it for that movie. So maybe in this one.

Agreed, she needs to be destroyed.

If the rumour is true, supposedly they wanted to destroy the TOS Enterprise, with Captain April and George Kirk on board, at the start of the movie (the ship became the Iowa then the Kelvin, April became Robau etc). The Enterprise Kirk grew up to command would have been the Enterprise-A.

I love this Enterprise. Long may she sail the stars! Or, at least, blow shit up real good.

Yep. That is exactly how it was going to be. However, Abrams was strictly forbidden from destroying the Enterprise so he was ordered to make the changes you described.

Never heard that before. Although it would explained the Movie looking Enterprise better.

This story gets repeated on this forum a lot, but the only source on the entire internet for this is IMDB. And that's not exactly a reliable site, in fact Tom Hanks publically debunked their claim that he was considered for the role of Zephram Cochrane in First Contact, and they still have that in their trivia section for the movie.

And really, don't we think that if Abrams and his cohorts wanted to use Captain April they would have just made him captain of the Kelvin? Nothing canonical exists about April, they could have still cast Faran Tahir as him.

If someone has a link about this story that doesn't come from IMDB or an internet forum, please share. I'd be very interested in learning there is truth to it. Otherwise, I see no reason to believe it.

Anyway that's not what the thread title says. Some would argue that it has already been destoried.

Would be the worst move ever.

She's a new ship, and the connection between her and the crew needs to be developed from the missions and adventures. Destroying the Enterprise so soon in the sequel just takes away whatever value and historical contribution the ship would have given in the new timeline.

If this were true and in the JJverse Enterprises are destroyed all willy-nilly, then by the time of The Next Generation, Picard would be in command of the Galaxy-class Enterprise-Z. Makes you wonder what the Sovereign-class would be. The Enterprise-AA?

There's no guarantee that the next Enterprise after NCC-1701 will be NCC-1701-A in this new reality, IMO. They could just call her the Enterprise (no bloody -A or -II) and assign her a totally new hull registry.

They can blow up the skinny secondary hull (or refit her) and replcae it with a more proportional one, and one that does not sit so ungainly forward allong the connecting dorsal

...skinny secondary hull...
...more proportional...
...sit so ungainly forward...
Couldn't you simply have said "I wish it looked just like the Enterprise used in the original series"? 'Cause that's clearly the message which came through. ;)
