So when do you think the Daleks will return?

SG-17

So the Daleks have appeared to every companion so far in the new series. How long do you think it will take for there to be a Dalek episode with 11 and his new companion?

Second or third episode of season 5.

You'd think they would want to promote this somehow. Maybe through a series of clips edited together with music at a quick pace.

Frankly, I'm sick of the Daleks. And don't undertand their long standing popularity....I mean, like the Borg, they're great in very small doses.....but they lose their bad assness when they keep getting defeated by one guy and some regular joes...again and again and again.

Plus the whole "exterminate" thing looks retarded when, confronting your deadliest enemy, you're saying "exterminate" ten or so times and not just....you know....exterminating him the second you actually saw him. It's ridiculous and feels too kiddie for my tastes.

Personality wise, they have none. The more I see them the less I like them, and I now groan everytime they show up. I wish they'd put a freeze on them for at least one season.

I'm surprised they're back this soon, myself. I do like them and the stories with them are generally great (that's even true for Doctor Who in the 60s). But, of course, after the Time War, their showing up so often poses a bit of a continuity problem that bugs me somewhat. I find it implausible that so many of them somehow escaped.
(Although it makes a bit more sense maybe now that we know more about the end of the Time War.)

Their use is, ISTR, part of the BBC's agreement with the Nation estate.

But, FWIW, episode 3, isn't it? They're certainly in the season 5 trailer...

Given the snippet of Smith we heard I'd imagine it's quite early and I'm also pretty certain that...

he won't recognise them immediately cos his memory's a bit frazzled

I'm also sick of the Daleks and I wish they would take a season break. At least.

That being said, the Dalek we glimpsed in the trailer looked a bit...classic. Hopefully that'll make for an interesting twist.

Indeed.

Doctor Who four through to seven got a Dalek adventure each. So for a while we were drip fed. The two new Doctors got one per series, so we're sort of gorged.

And the Doctors of old were never quite able to give a killer blow as often to the Daleks, fended some of them off rather than wipe out an Empire most of the time.

NuWho has sort of done for the Daleks what Voyager did for the Borg.

Exactly. When the Daleks first appeared at the end of Series 1 of nuWho I was like "whoa....these guys are bad ass!" Now there's no trace of that only a sense of "Again?"

Seriously, I understand the initial appeal of the Daleks in the early days of Who.....but what's the long term appeal of characters who have little personality beyond saying "Exterminate!!!"?

Davros was the proto Borg Queen in that they needed a face on the Daleks, but even that's worn thin over time. There's just nothing really compelling about the Daleks other than the fact that their a traditionally popular villian.

The Cybermen aren't much better with all this "Delete" crap. I don't know if that kind of thing makes it too kiddie like, or just shows it to be rooted in a 60's sci-fi mentality. It comes off as hokey after awhile. Ditto for the Cybermen stomping around.

I hope Moff can do something with the Daleks to make them remotely interesting cuz right now I don't think I'd miss 'em if they never came back.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought so.

I freeze framed it, and it looked gunmetal-grey to me, or possibly an overlit black dalek.

They've already returned; it just hasn't happened yet!

Wibbably-wobbily...

Agreed completely. I love the old Cybermen from The Tenth Planet through The Invasion. Back then they were interesting...and terrifying. I listened to "Spare Parts" last night and it was one of the most riveting stories I've heard in a long time. While "Rise of the Cybermen"/"The Age of Steel" were inspired by "Spare Parts," they're a watered down version. I want to see something darker and blood-chilling for the Cybermen.

Amen.

I live in hope. I'm disappointed to see the "Angels" again some villains are really only good once and I think the "Angels" are definitely one of those. Outside the parameters of Blink I don't think they could be used effectively.
