So when do we know the lead?

And yet, still no official announcement. I don't doubt she's doing it, but there's been nothing official yet. And like I said, they never include her name in the list when a new announcement happens, so they are clearly holding back for some reason.

I was about to call bullshit and link to an article on StarTrek.com, but holy shit, you're right! She has not been announced over at StarTrek.com. That's kinda weird really.

Do you think it was a decoy of some sort? I'm just wondering, since it was announced in a few places, and she even talks about it in an interview.

Oh no, I think it's totally legit. She's in it allright. I just think it's weird that StarTrek.com hasn't announced it yet.

I saw it on cbsnews.com........that's the closet I could find. More likely startrek.com is sloppy and not well supervised.

They might be saving it as a "final reveal" of sorts to drum up hype when the date gets closer. It won't be very effective though.

I thought they might be waiting to officially announce her until they announced the role of Captain. But since that's already happened, they may simply be holding off out of respect to "The Walking Dead", which is still airing its season, so as not to undermine the potential fate of her character on that show.

I should have been more clear. I meant character name and background, especially if it is Number One from Pike's Enterprise.

Er, Martin-Green is black, is she not? And Majel Barrett was white, was she not? So I'm not sure why anyone would think they're the same Number One.

That would probably be far lesser visual discontinuity than what will happen with the looks the era in general. Not that I think they'd be the same person.

Well, recasting is recasting. There was certainly nothing established in The Cage about her character that her background would be relevant to - unlike, say Uhura.

But...but...this series is supposed to take place in the prime universe! If Pike's Number One is recast as a black woman, then Bryan Fuller would be a dirty rotten filthy liar!

Unless...and just hear me out here...maybe Number One is a member of Section 31 and underwent plastic surgery like Admiral Marcus did to Khan, but instead of turning an Indian man into a white British guy, they turn a black woman into a white woman...or a white woman into a black woman...or maybe she's also Michelle Yeoh and gets turned into an Asian woman too!

Uh...whah?

Let's put this one to bed, shall we? This series is supposed to be 10 years prior to TOS. Let's do a little time computation, shall we?

At that point in time, Majel's "Number One" is on Enterprise with Pike now. Just like Riker had the nickname as well (unless Majel's character aged very gracefully and became a male First Officer), the nickname is used for First Officers.
