So what would YOU like to see next in the Alien franchise?

Apparently the Ridley Scott Alien prequel has been spun off into another project that won't feature the slobbering, mass-killing Xenomorphs. This leaves us devoid of any Alien projects in the near future. So what do we the fans think should become of this franchise?

Some potential options:

1. Nothing. Easy to produce and cheap too.

2. Another Alien vs. Predator. Third time is the charm?

3. Another Alien film set on a ship or in space. Creatures get loose, crew becomes lunch... somehow seems familiar and a bit tired though.

4. Aliens loose on a planet. This could be all kinds of fun. It didn't work well in AvP:R but that movie had a lot of problems that could not be overcome by the simple coolness factor of Xenomorphs take America.

5. Tying in another franchise. Jack Bauer vs. Aliens? Buffy the Alien Slayer? Aliens vs. Terminator? There's all kinds of possibilities and since we live in a universe perverse enough to bring us Snakes on a Plane (aka Samuel L. Jackson vs. muthafuckin' snakes) or Freddy vs. Jason, it would stand to reason that there are some crossover opportunities out there that might be crass commercialism at its worst but cheesy entertainment value at its best.

So, what say y'all? What should be next for our chestbursting friends?

Certainly worth considering. "Alien" has four movies plus two spin-off movies and several tie-ins in other media to its name. It's had a good run. If Ridley Scott's decided he'd rather rework his prequel into an original film, then it might be a good idea to let "Alien" lie. Wait 'til someone comes up with a new inspired idea rather than automatically churn out another installment.

2. Another Alien vs. Predator. Third time is the charm?
Bugger that. "Alien vs. Predator" has had its chance to prove itself and failed twice. Besides, another of those films right now would probably sabotage the revival of the "Predator" series (they're currently developing a sequel to "Predators").

3. Another Alien film set on a ship or in space. Creatures get loose, crew becomes lunch... somehow seems familiar and a bit tired though.
Well, that's an extremely broad category. It can only be judged on a case-by-case basis. If there's a good story with this as its premise, then fine -- if not, then no.

4. Aliens loose on a planet. This could be all kinds of fun. It didn't work well in AvP:R but that movie had a lot of problems that could not be overcome by the simple coolness factor of Xenomorphs take America.
Ditto. Each of these points are so nebulous that you can't really go "Yes! Do this!" because it has the potential to either be really good or really bad. There are some things to which you can just say "No" to, though (e.g. "Alien vs Predator 3").

5. Tying in another franchise. Jack Bauer vs. Aliens? Buffy the Alien Slayer? Aliens vs. Terminator?
Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein? Yeah, this is another one to which I can simply say "No way in hell".

if they want to continue the franchise, I'd like to see a bit more of the mythology, it kind of seems like a lot of stuff was going on in the background of the alien films and it seems like an interesting topic to explore

Something that returns to the quality of the first 2 films. Not ruling out AvP but it has to be more than just a grudge match slugfest. We should go back to the creatures origins and solve the mystery of the derelict once and for all.

If Sigourney and co from Alien 4 are prepared to do it, great but they're not essential

I still think Prometheus will do that. It's still two films isn't it? Even if it's just five minutes at the end joining of the dots.

Its been 14 years since she last played Ripley, I don't see it happening. Ironic the one time they left her awake for sequel she didn't get it.

Bring back the formula from Alien 2 with the Space Marines.

A ship carrying aliens could crashland on a planet where a Marine Outpost is stationed.

Torn between #1 and #2. I would like to see an AVP that got it right (I think AVP 2 was heading in the right direction), though I'm not anxious to see any new Alien films.

ALIEN 5.

Weaver.

Ryder.

Perlman.

Scott.

The fanboy in me wants to see this (though if they offed Ryder in the first five minutes I wouldn't shed a tear), but it isn't going to happen. I guess the fourth sequel didn't gross enough to warrant a fifth movie, and now it's been 13 years and Weaver is a little old to still be playing the action heroine.

Considering the mess made by the two AVP cross-over movies, I'm happy at letting the series stand at four movies and letting Scott's movie(s) be unrelated science fiction ventures.

Something final. Alien 5 brings the series to a nice round number. Hell, Ripley can even have a cameo for all I care, as long as the Aliens have one final proper outing.

None of this Predator shit.

I started talking about this in the other thread, so I'll just copy me.

I keep getting ripped on the MFO forum because I think Prometheus is going to be about someone doing some experiments and what not with the xenomorphs or space jockey race. Scott, Fassbender, and Rapace would not use words like 'strands of alien DNA' and 'connecting vein' after reading the script unless they were implying something. The title itself akins to Frankenstein. I've been told I'm reading too much into these purely metaphor comments, but I definately think they are being tongue in cheek about it. In the video Fassbender called the aliens tall and then said he was too nervous to say more. I've always speculated on how the original ship crashed, didn't you?

Oh! Here's the video with Fassbender. It was supposed to be a press thing for Jane Eyre and yet he's fielding Prometheus questions!

Lots of talk on the Fassbender Online website now. I guess he is getting that popular.

I hear ya.

But I guess any moderately attractive blonde with reasonable sized tits is going to get the fanbois in a lather.

And I also agree about the predators. First film was quite good but after that, I couldn't give a toss about them. And as fas as I was concerned, the predators in AvP ruined what was otherwise a pretty decent Aliens film.

Nothing.

Although I could warm up to an Alien vs. Predator directed by John McTiernan, produced by Ridley Scott, and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. ;)

I was interested in the Ridley Scott reboot, and I'm still interested in that project, but now that it's not an Alien film my interest in that franchise is at an all-time low.

Well according to Fassbender, the aliens ARE still in it (or at least some kind of alien).

Personally I'm glad they're spinning the story off in a different direction, because by this point the aliens in and of themselves have become PAINFULLY boring and predictable.

Even if they crafted the best possible story and got the best possible director, you're still stuck with a creature that isn't remotely interesting or mysterious anymore-- we know it's lifecycle, we know how it kills, and we know what every square inch of it looks like.

Charlize doesn't really have very impressive boobies. And I doubt she'll get them out here.

So definitely a no win-no win situation... :D
