So what are you writing now?

I'm writing the second story in my original scifi universe and plotting out the third.

I realized yesterday that I need to be able to write at least one story a month in order to get the discipline, but sometimes the motivation just isn't there. A 1 mile walk I took yesterday to clear my head (in addition to taking out the trash and checking the mail for my new issue of Analog) didn't work but I was able to get a page written, not much but it was something.

I like handwriting the stories first, then typing them up and editing as I go.

I've been spoiled by computers. I tried handwriting a SPIDER-MAN story on a plane a few years back. It was hell.

On the other hand, Richard Matheson still writes his books by hand, then hires a typist.

I would think that for a novel it would be tedious as most people can type faster than they can write, but for short stories it might work just fine.

I can't trust my computer, It scrambles files when it feels like it. It would be heartbreaking to lose something exquisite.

On another note. How many people are trying to write star Trek novels in here? besides those that actually are. Does anyone know who reads submissions at Pocket? or if they are even taking submissions. and how long would it take to get a response?

In a shameless bout of self-promotion, my story "Leaving Chelsea" is currently appearing online in the July issue of 10Flash Quarterly.

I have a load of ideas ranging from small character stories to hugh sci-fi epics, but whenever I sit down to write, I find myself getting distracted by anything and everything. Does anyone have any advice on getting started, other than completely disconnecting the internet and burying the mains plug to my tv?

Nope, that's a pretty good way to do it. I tend to write on my laptop so that I can take it into my bedroom, out on the balcony, or out to the library in order to work without the distraction of the Internet.

My short story was rejected by Analog but it now gives me a chance to rewrite a couple of bits I wasn't entirely happy with and change the ending to something a little more positive. I still need to finish another story I'm working on and start a third, and I need to plot the fourth.

I am also thinking of getting back into writing ST fan fiction again, if I can find the right story.
