So what are you reading? Part VI

The Stormlight Archive series is in the same universe as the Mistborn trilogy?

Ah, I thought you were saying they were all on the same world. That makes more sense.

Taking a break from my Vanguard re-read and reading Children of the Storm. About half-way through. Good stuff so far!

Either way, it means they're all part of one overarching story that will take decades to write but that he's already foreshadowing. This, to me, is *cool*.

I looked Brandon Sanderson up and read a little bit from the previews on Amazon. He's on my to-read list. Is Elantris good to start with?

Yeah, very. I always love when stories are able to be connected. Does it matter what order you read them in?

Got a chance to take a day or two to finish reading Children of the Storm and was BLOWN AWAY by it. One of the best 'Trek books I've ever read.

Not at all. Except, you know, Mistborn 2 should come after Mistborn 1, etc. But aside from some very clever and fascinating hints that are definitely there if you look for them, nothing is explicitly tying them together yet.

Having read ALL of Brandon's work up till now, I would recommend that a new reader start with Elantris.

That work introduces several of the concepts that define his writing style.

And then you can move on to the Mistborn trilogy, one of the works of fiction that I cannot believe has not been optioned for a movie.

Sanderson is an AMAZING writer, and I only regret that I tore through his work so fast that I am forced to wait for more new stuff

As for my current reading choices, I am struggling through The Romulan War: Under the Raptor's Wing by Micheal Martin.
That book is crazy boring.

^ Yes, but Mistborn is better :)

And I hear you about Romulan War. "Struggle" is the right word.

Agree with the Mistborn statement. The finale of book 1 is one of the most amazing in ANY series I have ever read.

Romulan War is a book I am about to start hating.

Nah, I think that kidney ended up on Apokolips . . . .

Hmm. I bet it's some nefarious plot by the Bring Back Darkseid!ers to reconstruct their New God organ by organ!

I finished Warehouse 13 last monday, and found it enjoyable, although I wonder what HG Wells did to warrent being bronzed alive, as reported in your book. Well, thats why God invented Google!

I started "Star Trek: Vanguard - Declassified" yesterday.

Or Netflix. You'd be better off getting the story through the second-season episodes themselves.

I've never NetFlix'd. Do you know which particular episode to watch, or does it play out throughout the entire second season? If the later, how much would that cost?

The H. G. Wells arc runs throughout the entire season, which is 12 episodes on 3 DVDs. Netflix is a subscription service; for a monthly fee, you get as many DVDs as you want, depending on the plan, plus unlimited online streaming of those things that are available in that form. For instance, I'm on the unlimited 1-disc-at-a-time plan, which is about 10 bucks a month. You get a disc, you watch it and send it back, and they send you the next one in your queue. The faster you go through the discs, the more you get for your money.

The Helena plotline is an arc that plays out over the course of the second season, with interruptions. I think "For the Team" is the ep where we get most of her backstory, though.
