So what are you reading now (Part 4)?

That's a complaint that has dogged Brooks since, oh, The Sword of Shanarra. :)

I haven't read the other novelizations,but I can echo the RotS recommendation. It gives Amidala a proper role (instead of standing in the background crying) and makes Anakin's slide into the dark side more believable in terms of turning against both Obi-Wan and Padme.

Yeah, I read a little bit of it before the movie came out, and I remember it being pretty cool. I read some of AoTC too, and I remember really liking it (I remember there being some extra stuff with the Fetts that I especially liked). I haven't actually finished either of them though. When I read the novelistion before whatever it's based on comes out I'll usually stop a few chapters before the end so I can wait and see how it ends in the theater.
What about Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, is it worth reading?

Read that a few years ago -- in 2005, 2006. I can't remember any specifics, but I do remember enjoying it. It has a four-star rating at Amazon and sells used at three cents. ;)
 
Finished Doctor's Orders today and enjoyed it a good bit. The strategical maneuvering in the battle sequence went a little over my head, but I liked the species on the planet. If there's one thing I like about Diane Duane, it's her creativity in alien species. And overall, I liked the "quiet" nature of the story. It had its share of action, but for once, the mission itself was more about exploration and an actual new world and new civilization. :techman:

Starting Vendetta now. Have seen it recommended more than once, so looking forward to testing it out for myself.

Saw a copy of the second Typhon Pact novel in Borders the other day, but it had a few nicks and oddities from shipment that made me decide to look for a better copy elsewhere. One of these days, I might actually get caught up and read it, too. ;)
 
Not sure it technically counts as "reading," but I'm really enjoying a new coffee-table book, THE ART OF HAMMER FILMS, which is filled with gorgeous full-color reproductions of wonderfully lurid old horror and science fiction movie posters.

"IF YOU DARE . . . face the deadly passion of the BLOOD-NYMPHS!"

Great stuff.

I finished Precipice last night. Awesomeness. "Nymock"? Flinging gagh at your cell's forcefield to cook it? T'Prynn checking out Khatami? Someone dumping garbage on Nimbus III?
Quinn kills Zett? Xiong and Marcus capture the Shedai Wanderer?
There was a lot to love here.
Today I will star Terok Nor: Dawn of the Eagles.
 
Just finished Kobayashi Maru by Martin and Mangels...next up, The Kobayashi Maru by Julua Ecklar. Enjoyed the Martin/Mangels book the more I read of it. There were numerous little references made to TOS episodes I appreciated, and I especially liked seeing Montgomery, AL mentioned. I live just 40 minutes away and go there often.
 
I just read the original Kobayashi Maru. It's a good book. Though, I would have liked to have heard Spock's story on taking that test.

I really liked books 1,2, only part three was a bit iffy. Good character bits but the pseudo-science wasn't as good.

I should see if there's a thread on the series so I can bitch.... :guffaw:

You've already heard the entire story if you've seen The Wrath of Khan. To wit: "I never took... the Kobayashi Maru test... until now. What do you think... of my solution?"

He never took the test. And when he did, he saved the ship and the crew from being engulfed by Genesis, but he died from radiation poisoning.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one. Nevermind. :lol:

Edit: Although, it does seem strange that Spock was the only one who didn't take the test (of the command folks).
