So what are you reading now (Part 4)?

...but I have two friends who are begging/hounding me to try Robert Jordan's Eye of the World
Don't.

It is my opinion that if you need more than three books to tell an epic, then you're way too verbose and the story is needlessly long. The Wheel of Time is about 10 books too long. I read the first two before I got completely bored out of my skull. I would rather watch paint dry than read the Wheel of Time books.

YMMV.

Currently reading Zoetrope: All Story 2...

An anthology of "the best" stories that appearing in the magazine. (And, I do have to say, all the stories I've read so far have been pretty good...and I'm halfway done with the book).

Just finished an absolutely fascinating book called Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA by Richard C. Hoagland and Mike Bara. I am now reading Full Dark No Stars by Stephen King.

I have a list of ST novels that I created based on the timeline and after reading ST: Enterprise novels, the next one on that list is Starfleet Year One. That's the book that I'm currently waiting from the library. :)

I just want to make sure you're aware that SY1 was written before Ent. and from what I've heard ( I haven't read it myself) it contradicts the show quite a bit.

Yeah I read a little bit of SY1 foreword. It does said that it contradicts Enterprise show.

But it also said that SY1 happens after the Romulan Wars ended which according to other sources should be in 2160. That's how I figure I should read SY1 after Enterprise novel. :)

I've gotten back into pursuing my Trek novels collection, and congruently, have been reading some of the older ones that I had never read before. Over the last few weeks, I've read TNG's Eye of the Beholders, Fortune's Light, and Contamination. Today I started Diane Duane's TOS novel Doctor's Orders. I've found out that even though I'm not the biggest TOS fan, I tend to enjoy the novels quite a bit. And since Duane is one of my favorite authors for her Young Wizards series, I'm looking forward to this one. OH, and before the TNG string, I read Spock's World, which I found mostly fascinating and which encouraged me to pick up another of Duane's Trek novels. Eventually I'm looking forward to getting into her Rihannsu series.

I am currently reading Synthesis, by the person who posted above... :) Halfway through, and it's been something of a page-turner

Just finished The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

Tonight I will be starting The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, hopefully by the time I finish it I will have Typhon Pact - Seize the Fire to jump straight into!

I started Crucible: Spock the other day. I also read the tpb of Year Four: The Enterprise Experiment over the last two days. I'm about to start reading the tpb of Assignment: Earth.

Just finished The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

Good, innit? Not sure if I want to read the two follow ups though. Ends quite solidly.

Currently reading Doctor Who: coming of the terraphiles. Pretty good. I haven't ever got into a doctor who book before but his one is really fun.

I picked up two Stephen King novels from the library to go alongside Patrick O'Brian: Carrie and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Perfect Christmas reading. :p Not sure if I'll get to both of them, but to one at least.

I wonder if the Forever War movie will ever get made. Last I heard was Ridley Scott was signed to direct but haven't heard a peep since then. It would make a cool movie but I don't hold high hopes for most adaptations.

There's a tbp of Assignment: Earth? When did that come out?

read a couple of Dr Whos for the anniversary - The Plotters and Devil Goblins From Neptune - and now trying my first Michael Connelly Harry Bosch book, The Concrete Blonde (which is in a double volume with the next book in the series, The Last Coyote, so I guess that'll be next)

I got a hunch he's talking about the Gary Seven IDW comic miniseries, since the Year Four tpb is definitley IDW.

Oops! You're right. I was thinking of Assignment: Eternity.
