Continued from Part 3 here

I've recently finished the following books:
Necessary as Blood by Deborah Crombie
Troublesome Minds by Dave Galanter
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, Book 1 (The Inheritance Trilogy) by N.K. Jemisin

I enjoyed all of them a great deal.

I wanted to mention that I heard about The 100K Kingdoms on John Scalzi's Whatever blog, and I found the "Big Idea" post about the book interesting. I haven't read much fantasy other than Tolkien and The Dresden Files series, so I gave it a try. This book had me hooked right from the beginning. It's a first novel, and it is excellent. I highly recommend it. The second book in the trilogy comes out in early November 2010.
 
Just finished Rising Son. I couldn't possibly care less about Jake Sisko, so I was surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I loved the setup for the Ascendants / Eav'oq, and the crew was really entertaining. I did think that she had a bunch of neat ideas that never really went anywhere, though, like the Wa. Brilliant idea, but had no intersection with the plot at all. I wanted, like, a chase scene through it or something. I'm hoping that, due to events at the end of The Soul Key, we'll have a chance to revisit this ship some more. There are definitely more stories to be told there.

I've already started Saturn's Children, Q-Squared is after that, then I think Catalyst Of Sorrows. It's the only Lost Era book I haven't read, and some structural weirdness in Unspoken Truth aside, I pretty much love MWB. I'm hoping for good things.
 
I finally started reading Seven Deadly Sins. I've already finished "Slow Knife" and loved every bit of it. I'm currently on "Freedom Angst."
 
why do we have to keep having new threads? considering there's threads in other fora which are running on over 2 or 3 thousand posts...

It goes back to when--for technical reasons--there was a board-wide ban on threads above 1000 posts. The technical reasons have since largely disappeared, and it is now a forum-by-forum decision by the moderators (whether or not threads over a thousand posts are allowed).

That and it feels traditional (or it least that's I what I thought back when I was in charge).

I recently finished Orion's Hounds and it's a pretty excellent read. I was up in the air about whether to keep on reading Titan after sitting through those first 2 mediocre at best M&M books but Hounds is definitely worth the read. I don't know that I could do 3 M&M books in a row. Little too much self flagellation for me.

I also really enjoyed To Reign in Hell but I can't seem to track down the earlier Eugenics Wars books locally. Probably have to Amazon those...
 
I'm currently reading both Gemini (Mike W. Barr's TOS novel) and Mack's The Calling.

I've also ordered Genesis Force (TNG), Saratoga (DS9) and Rules of Engagement (TOS), so hopefully, these can keep me occupied till Tyuphon Pact (though I doubt it.. :rolleyes:)
 
Last night I finished Supernatural: Heart of the Dragon. I read a Sherlock Holmes story today, The Adventure of the Cardboard Box. I'm going to start on Doctor Who: The Krillitane Storm later today.
 
Finished The Dead Men Diaries, a Bernice Summerfield anthology, the other day, and am currently reading Warring States, a Faction Paradox novel by Mags Halliday. The latest Iris Wildthyme anthology should be in my mailbox pretty soon. Spinoffs like these are one of the reasons I love Doctor Who so much.

Yeah, thats one think i'll never forgive Mr. Mack for. The wait between Destiny and The Typhoon Pact. This should be illegal dammit...

Licencing arrangements in the United Kingdom certainly allow for some interesting side steps in the Doctor Who franchise...

I can only imagine what kind of wacky literary spinoffs Star Trek would have if a similar setup existed in North America. (Star Fleet Battles is just a taste, but I'm sure it would get far weirder.)
 
^We already have New Frontier, SCE, Titan, Vanguard, my upcoming DTI book, and the like. Okay, the Summerfield and Wildthyme books are different in that they're creator-owned and the publishers don't need a license for Doctor Who fiction (in fact, I gather that Wildthyme was an independent character first and only later added into the Whoniverse), but otherwise, is there a great difference in content or approach?
 
I just completed the New Frontier novel "Dark Allies" and I am currently reading "Requiem" by Peter David.

Dark Allies is a tremendous book. Really fun read.
 
Now i am reading Star Trek The Next Generation: The Genesis Wave book one. Before that i was reading Star Trek The Unspoken Truth, Star Trek Online :The Needs of the Many, Star Trek Voyager: Full Circle and Star Trek Voyager: Unworthy.
