So this is it then?

I just read articles online from various sources.

...:sigh:

So, that's it? After Academy and Strange New Worlds end, no new Trek? Another hiatus for the franchise?

Even with its 60th Anniversary on the horizon?!

I just got back into Trek four years ago and now this?

I'm appalled, upset, and melancholy about the whole thing. I secretly hoped for a spin off sequel continuation of Lower Decks, and I didn't want SNW to be cancelled.

I swear, I hate business mergers. Because stuff like this always happens with corporate change, and directions that are questionable in the long run. Franchises suffer, change due to "age demographics".

And for what?...

If anyone can help this fan with the dark cloud looming overhead, offer some input or sage advice that everything will be ok or something will come along. I welcome it.

Probably not. The only thing so far are the rumors for Star Trek:United..which apparently people have heard from insiders that it is close to being greenlit..

Attention everyone who has taken the time to read this thread.

I want to apologize, for my thoughts on the matter of learning of Trek's hiatus. And I really wanted that Lower Decks sequel spinoff...but I guess I'll have to wait a few years before that comes to pass.

It's just I just got back into Trek in 2022, ever since nearly leaving for close to ten years prior.

To put it plainly, I was venting my frustrations, which was probably unprofessional.

The franchise's 60th anniversary is this year and on the horizon. Regarding this news, what's going to happen to make it a commendable event?

Since you asked :D ;) ...

ETA: Correcting it for the footie fans on the board.

Announcer: "Tonight's matchup is Star Trek: United versus Naboo City!"

Since Star Trek: United is playing at home, there's gagh, leola root soup, and Romulan ale available at the concession stand. ;)
I'm sorry but I love this.

We don't know how making TV series will be affected by the next few years of the streaming industry continuing to go through changes, Paramount going through corporate changes, and (yes, this is relevant to the latter) Trump's inevitable departure from the political scene. We don't know who, if anyone, is going to be running Star Trek in three or five years. We don't know how the ratings will be for the remaining seasons of Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy (some shows catch on late). We don't know if Paramount will actually get a movie into production in the next couple of years. We don't even know if they'll follow up in any way on that Khan podcast series.

Whatever happens, we know Star Trek will be back eventually. And we know some people will complain about it.

I think this anniversary should be a celebration of the things Trek purports to celebrate like exploration space travel. So, instead of just focusing on Star Trek, I think celebrating things like Artemis II, or looking forward to new space travel and tech as well as new opportunities is a good way forward.

First, there’s no need to apologize for being upset about the state of Star Trek at the moment. That’s why we have this forum, so people can post their feelings about Trek, whether good or bad.

However, not to add insult to injury, but I don’t think you’re ever going to get a follow up show to Lower Decks. I believe all of CBSTrek is done for good. Now we patiently wait, possibly for years, until Skydance decides how they want to reinvigorate Trek. And I guarantee it won’t be resurrecting something that came before.

Or heck, the European Union (and maybe what’s left of NATO, even if the biggest member leaves), since it’s presumably the forerunner of the European Hegemony —> United Earth —> Coalition of Planets —> UFP progression that makes the whole thing possible.

The way I see it, we've still got 2 or 2.5 years of Trek waiting in the wings. After that, there may indeed be a (IMO, much deserved) break in which everything we've got from 2017 settles down a bit. The true test of a fandom is when things aren't in production and it's the fans that keep it alive. That's how Trek has endured for so long and remained a property that keeps coming back.

Personally, I think this is just the winding down of the Kurtzman era of Trek. I am willing to bet bars of gold-pressed latinum that it won't be too long after Kurtzman Trek is done, Trek will be officially handed over to new creators to begin the next era.

Well, can't keep a fan from at least hoping against hope.

So much of the streaming era was so poor that honestly I'm not that disappointed. I think a rest and a change will be nice.

My favorite live action streaming series was SNW, but even that started going downhill this past season. Hopefully, the 4th and 5th seasons will be better but we don't know yet.

LDS was cool and fun.

The hit rates for the rest of the series were so abysmally low that I'm not going to miss new Trek.

Despite that, I would've like to have seen the Year One series. That could've been interesting. So, a bit of disappointment there. But, otherwise :shrug:let me know when someone is going to make more.

I do feel for those who enjoyed SFA and had it cut off. That sucks.

Look, everyone is entitled to their opinions. These are TV shows. It's not a matter of right or wrong.

For me, personally, I just think the majority of the streaming era has sucked. I'm sorry, you can disagree and I'm happy if you enjoyed it, but I just could not get into most of it.

For me, personally, I would be very happy to see Trek take a few years off, build up some new demand, and then come at things fresh. While it would be interesting to see Bakula and the folks again, and wouldn't be a bad thing to get a new producer at the helm, I really hope they do not go forward with the United project. I think we need to stop with the reboots, prequels, callbacks, etc. and just do something original. But beyond that, I think Trek needs a breather. Even if they would do exactly what I wanted, I don't think now is the time. Give it five years. Then try again.

There's enough already-filmed Trek right now to last us until at least 2027.
The new approach to Trek could very well be in pre-production by then. What feels like a break right now might not even turn out to be much of one in reality.

We'll see.
