so the producers and writers said that discovery will lead into TOS (60's aesthetics and all)...

That sort of undercuts the "it's basically the same ship" argument. The Refit Enterprise bears a closer resemblance to a redesigned starship that is completely unrelated to the Enterprise than it does to the original Enterprise.
Well, reading the (albeit non-canon) stats between the two, regardless of hull shape, there are some differences as far as compliment of crew and the like, so something changed.

In any other movie Kirk would be the villain.
No, sorry, that's not what follows! Its...

KIRK: "That's why you're staying aboard. I'm sorry Will."
DECKER: "No, Admiral. I don't think you are sorry, not one damn bit. I remember when you recommended me for this command. You told me how envious you were, and how much you hoped you'd find a way to get a starship command again. Well, it looks like you found a way."

Remember now?

"Report to the bridge, Commander. Immediately."

It's also kind of bothered me because it could be interpreted a lot of ways, but two scenes later Kirk comes out of the transporter room and is obviously lost, asks a crewmen for "Turboshaft A" and she points him the opposite direction he's actually going. Seems like the internal arrangement may have changed too?
