what is John going to do, he cant replay old Bush clips anymore.

for heaves sake I am no Bush supporter, but doesn't every President look a bit silly when he has tried to do a native dance, would you rather have a President who trys, or one who just stands there moving his hands slightly looking cross?

I give Bush points for trying, and John negative points for replaying the clip over & over again, like the President is actually doing something wrong in the clip?

John's a comedian. Whenever a politician makes an ass out of himself, he'll be there. He'll make a joke out of it, and beat it like the proverbial dead horse until something even more funny comes along.

And besides, there's always Congress.....

Shows like this will always make fun of the President - *any* President. I don't see much of a bias here. Whether it's McCain or Obama, the DL will be on him like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat. Politicians of any party are fair game.

There hasn't been a President (or elected official of any kind) in the history of this nation who has been above criticism, above parody; I don't see this changing anytime soon, if ever.

I don't know how much fun the show would poke at Obama. Any humor at his expense would probably be played "safe." Put it this way -- if Obama's and Hillary's roles were reversed, anyone who suggests Obama should drop out would be declared a racist. Image if Obama loses the election -- how much media blitz would be about "Is America racist?" And since I'm not white, I can actually say stuff like this without fear of repercussion.

From last year's Rolling Stone interview with Colbert and Stewart (roughly paraphrased):

Rolling Stone: If Barack Obama is elected President, will you still make jokes about him?
Stewart: Are you kidding?
Colbert: His dad was a goat-farmer!

The Daily Show often gets a rep for picking on Republicans, but the truth that the Republicans seem to ignore is that they're the ones in power right now. Of course they're going to get skewered. The Daily Show and Colbert Report both have called out the Democrats for their own foibles too. Expecting that things will suddenly get "boring" because the Democrats will (hopefully) re-take the White House in six months is silly.

In other words, Jon will find a way to keep the funny.

yes the whole PC nature of TV comedy when it comes to both women & black people, could be an issue.

Every politician can and does provide comic fodder. But when Bush goes, the boom times for Stewart et al go with him...

Believe it or not The Daily Show is pretty "fair and balanced" with it's comedy. Yeah Republicans have gotten a lot of skewering on the show the last few years but only because they've been mostly in power and of course if the Veep shoots someone in the face or the President makes his umpteenth gramatical foible TDS is going to pounce on it.

TDS will be just as biting with Hillary or Obama behind the country's helm, they won't let up a bit.

Obama and Hillary, hell even McCain, will most likely though not give TDS much material. Hell, I said myself 8 years ago that Bush going into the White House would mean, at least, 4 years of great comedy from TDS.

Most of the McCain jokes (from any comedian or TV host) seem to be about his age. That, pardon the pun, gets real old, real quick. You'd think they could come up with funnier shit than that.

That being said, I can't wait for the first movie to be made in which McCain is president. A role tailor made for Michael Hogan.

its early they might have to find 4 years worth of jokes yet.

also isnt that reflective of how little air time he gets compared to Obama or Clinton

To be fair, Obama and Clinton are actively fighting against each other, so of course they'll got talked about more than a guy waiting for convention.

There's no question The Daily Show and Colbert Report will make fun of Obama if he becomes President. Also, they'll still go with their bread and butter, making fun of the media. So they're not going to run out of jokes.

Do keep in mind that The Daily Show started when Bill Clinton was still in office, and they've certainly not hesitated to make fun of Hillary and Obama. I'm sure they'll have no problem at all making fun of President Obama even as he leads us into a glorious new utopia. ;)

Obama got my vote, but I seriously doubt the Daily Show will have the chance to make fun of him. They might as well dust off the ol' clips of John McCain because once the Republican fear machine comes into play between now and Nov and, of course the terrorist alert level is raised because as I'm sure the swiftboat morons will point out, "People, some of whom have the last name of Hussein, want to come and rape your daughters and behead your sons if Obama is elected!" he will lose.

While I think it's obvious Jon possesses a disdain for George W. Bush, and probably not for Barack Obama, he'll still poke fun at anything he can about the guy.

two words to solve that

Boris Johnson

You know what, I started watching "Have I Got News For You" and I actually know who that is. :D
I still cant believe the people of London voted for him, but then I live outside the M25 so according to most Londoners I dont really exist.

this glorious new utopia? this I look forward to seeing.

and having Bill Clinton in her past, will make it easier to make jokes of Hilary Clinton.

cant believe some of the racism I saw in the last "long flat seemingly endless baton of death march to the white house" segment.

are there going to be any voting whilst John takes a week off? heck I might put money on the whole thing being settled next week.

They make fun of the media more than they do politicians as of late. I think that makes it funnier, actually.

Yes, the show started with Clinton at the country's helm. And yes, they skewered him plenty. Obama will get it too. Or McCain, either way. Both have been friendly with the show in the past, McCain for quite a bit longer. In that sense... it will be interesting either way.

My big question though is whether The Daily Show might finally have a shot at getting its first interview with a sitting president. McCain has been on the show more than pretty much anybody else, and he and Stewart have a good rapport. Obama is much newer on the scene, but seems to be pretty comfortable on the show as well (moreso before the campaigning, but the same is true for McCain). I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see either on the show in the next four years after January.

Also, in 2004 Kerry showed up once but Bush never returned their calls. This year, the two (and Clinton) have already appeared plenty. It'll be interesting to see them appear again once this really kicks off. I'm sure it'll happen.

And will Colbert snag an interview (not a gag like the Clinton/Edwards/Obama gig a few weeks ago, but an actual interview) out of any of them? Methinks not, but we shall see....
