So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted?

ALF

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
...and that's suggesting that the upcoming Star Trek XI film is in a way, a reboot even though TPTB suggest that it isn't. But it is being recast and revisited.

Anyway... TNG is a classic now. When will it be recast and revisited?

And I say in 2027, forty years after it's launch, Picard and co. will be recast and set in new episodes. That's my bizarre prediction for the day.

I can't see them recasting and doing TNG all over again as a stand alone TV series. But then they are recasting TOS, so who knows?

never. let's hope.

"rebooting" is totally asinine...if matt damon (or whatever zero-of-the-week is supposed to be playing kirk in the next movie) can play jimmy k, i can't WAIT to see who they come up with for picard.

Paramount/CBS seems to see Star Trek as Kirk and Spock only these days. I don't see a reboot of TNG, ever.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

Enterprises TATV really made me long for TNG and reminded me how much I missed it. I'd love to see it start up again. Not reimagined.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

Kirk and Spock are more mythological characters than the TNG crew, so casting actors other than Shatner and Nimoy is more acceptable. Kind of like Batman.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

I wouldn't really wanna see it continued cause a lot of the cast haven't exactly aged gracefully, but anything to get more good Star Trek, with well developed characters, good drama, good messages, etc. Not just Star Trek with a bunch of modern crap added like T & A just to get ratings. If that means a reboot of TNG, then I'll watch it.

Not really, it's actually pretty true. TATV was evidence enough: watch "The Pegasus" and "These Are The Voyages" back-to-back, you'll see it. Aside from Frakes and Sirtis, Spiner doesn't even want to do Data anymore because of his aging over the past 20 years. Stewart, Burton and McFadden still look ok, but honestly... time hasn't been kind to the entire cast.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

For some reason I never thought Patrick Stewart ages much. I think he looks younger, more fit now than he did in E@FP

Marina Sirtis I think is still very pretty even at 52.

Frakes hasnt aged well though, gained some weight but its more his face that has shown the effects of time.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

Maybe by 2010 if they do

Probably just CGI and better picture quality.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

I may have said this before, but TATV would have made a lot more sense set on the Titan, rather than the Enterprise D. Then you wouldn't have the comparison of Frakes to his TNG series appearance....

However, if they made a Titan series, I'd be there yesterday and I too, think Sirtis still looks hot!

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

The fact that TOS has the most famous characters makes it the most prone to recasting. TNG should be safe ... aside from cameos, perhaps.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

So basically what you're saying is you don't want to see the TNG cast anymore because they're old?

Might I remind everyone that the TOS cast didn't exactly "age gracefully" either, but they kept making Trek movies more than 20 years after the show ended.

A Titan series would rule.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

just so everyone knows, I am not trying to insult any cast members, just stating a simple fact that some don't look as well as they previously did.

with all due respect, there's a big difference between a weekly series and movies every few years. Seeing them in movies older and fatter is different than seeing them older, fatter, and balder every week.

I agree

If Frakes would drop a few pounds, it would work, he doesn't look horrible, but just has gained a lot of weight. Sirtis looks good for her age, and it could work with her.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

Titan would be good, Isn't Tuvok on that ship now in the novels? It would be fresh, going forward, with enough familiar faces for the fans to relate to. Wonder what TPTB think about it.

A TNG reboot would totally suck. When are they going to learn that reboots don't work. Even the highly praised BSG reboot lost it's way and is getting terminated.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

A reboot as a new series?? No. I just don't think Star Trek has what it takes to be a tv-series anymore. It's premise is still great, and I wouldn't mind if it was done in the spirit of the original. But these days, people like their shows a bit hard and gritty. Take nuBSG for example.
I love nuBSG, but making Trek as hard and gritty like that, it just wouldn't work. It's not what Trek is about. It's about hope and a prospect of a better future.

Perhaps in the 20's, with a TV-movie or something, TNG could have a recast/reboot. But only when it can work and people want it, not because they can. this new movie isn't made because we as fans want a reboot with new actors playing our favorite characters. It's being made because they can. Wrong reason to make a movie if you ask me.

Re: So just how long until The Next Generation gets Rebooted

I cannot see Kirk, Spock, or Picard or anyone ever being recast. Whoever is playing Kirk and Spock and the others in Star Trek XI has like 75 billion kilometer long shoes to fill.
