I agree with most of your post...except the end with "...just plain silly" Did you see that screencap from the Enterprise episode? It looks really close. But as others said...not many people have ever watched that show.

Are you actually serious? We see a trailer for a Star Trek movie with an energy beam in it, and people are jumping seriously to the conclusion that this is somehow related to the Xindi weapon because .... it looked like it?

It's not only silly, it's ridiculous. They have terrorists and guns in action movies, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Jack Bauer is going to show up in every one of them to save the day.

This is really, really, really, ignorant thinking.

Oh oh...you didn't read carefully...I was mentioning that the two beams hit the water next to the Golden Gate bridge...and that that's acceptable as being similar. I've never actually seen the episode of Enterprise in question.

I also find it funny that you think me saying that is not just ignorant (don't judge people by stuff they say about ray guns in sci-fi movies) but really, really ignorant.
