So, it´s the Xindi attack plot again

Almost makes me wish the plot was just....simple.

Leave the excitement to how they deal with a simple direct threat.

No time travel, no nothing.

Just...bad guys attack and respond.

No, No, No!
A threat from the future comes to alter the flow of history.
It's fresh and new! ;) Every time we hear about it, it's just as inventive as the first time.

Egads! That's all I need - to have to re-watch parts of Enterprise in order to know what's going on in this movie.

Just the thought of it makes me depressed. :p

Cmon now, ENT was a good show IMO, and its easy to speculate on a few seconds of footage from the Super Bowl commercial. We wont know what truly happens until May 8th.

As Mr. Spock would say, "There are always possibilities"

Damn straight. :techman:

And what the fuck is "Starblazers?"

Only the best cartoon of my childhood, how could any decent sci-fi fan on this site not know about Starblazers.

Now if you had said you won't sure about Space Battleship Yamato, that would be different. But Starblazers, it was the height of anime until the porn anime came along.

Well, there's a really big beam in it. Beyond that we know diddly. There was a great big beam of energy in Star Wars too. Maybe it's the Death Star attack plot again. Maybe it's the ID4 attack plot again. Maybe it's Dr. Evil's "Alan Parson's Project" attack again.

We don't know.

We saw a beam of energy.

We don't know its significance.

It may take place early in the film as stage one in the destruction of San Francisco, which causes the time paradox which drives the rest of the story. Or...maybe the scene is part of the action packed finale, where the beam is utilized to create a temporal whatsit of some kind, which is needed to set the timeline straight.

Speculating is fine, but stating that this minor snoppet of out-of-context action footage gives away a major plot point, which happens to parallel a plot device already used in "Enterprise", is both dishonest and just plain silly.

JJ seems to have a massive hard-on for time travel.

It's a metaphor for the film itself, JJ and Paramount are working to retrieve an historical relic from the archives, seeking to adapt its heretofore esoteric qualities in service of contemporary financial goals. It's very Trek.

I'd also like to mention that it's the Shinzon plot too.

It makes sense, in order to take over everything, you need to get rid of Earth.

I still think this movie has a much better plot than TMP. I haaaaaaaaaate TMP. It's just 2 hours of nothing happening... There's even a 3 minute pass around of the ship. And whereas that is what some trekkies want to see, it doesn't make it a good movie.

As long as this attack destroys the planet the first time it is used it's not the Xindi plot.

"Let's test our doomsday weapon on Earth, so that Starfleet can then come after us and destroy the main weapon before we use it on them."

Except this time, people might actually watch it.

Yes, it's like Big Brother...except someone would actually be watching.

Not that in the 23rd century an attack on starfleet academy would be that damaging to the Federation in all honesty. They would already have a few dozen member worlds and all that, with starfleet facilities on each. Only really the bookwork is done at starfleet academy. Students would have to go elsewhere for more practical based classes.

A smart bad guy would get over the use of these big lasers and just fire a genetic disease they made themselves. Kill the inhabitants without damaging the terrain, walk in and sit in their comfortable chairs.

"hey, dude, I OWN Starfleet Command!"

I agree with most of your post...except the end with "...just plain silly" Did you see that screencap from the Enterprise episode? It looks really close. But as others said...not many people have ever watched that show.
