So.....is Clark going to fly tonight?

When will he finally fly and call himself Superman... Season 11 episode 13? So we get like a half dozen episodes of him as Superman then it ends, right? Asshats.

But that's not the show. It's "Smallville," not "The New, New Adventures of Superman." I realize that some people would prefer a straight-out SUPERMAN tv series to the Smallville approach, but I'm amazed that, after eight years, people still keep expecting the show to be something other than what it is.

SMALLVILLE was never intended to be SUPERMAN: THE TV SERIES. It's a teen-friendly soap opera based loosely on Clark Kent's early years. That may not be to everyone's taste, but why blame it for not being an entirely different kind of show?

It's like watching the Disney version of THE SWORD OF THE STONE and getting frustrated that it's not John Boorman's EXCALIBUR. Same subject matter. Completely different approach.

True, but if you tune into SMALLVILLE expecting to see Superman flying around in all his glory, you're expecting a different show. Smallville is just sticking to its original premise for as long as possible.

If M.A.S.H. can prolong the Korean War indefinitely, I figure Smallville can keep Clark out of the tights for another season or two. If we get a glimpse of a red cape in the final shot of the final ep, I'll be happy.

They really are going to have to address the flying thing, though . . . .

I had forgotten that I started this topic.

Personally, I don't mind the "red-blue blur" title or the suit issue- I am satisfied with the red jacket and blue shirt or vice versa. Last episode when Clark ran into the phone booth and changed into his "costume" I thought to myself that that was probably going to be the closest we get to superman for this show but it did not upset me. But I am getting tired of the writers not allowing Clark's character to advance at least toward flying. I am not expecting Clark in one episode to jump up in the air and magically start flying. Let his attempts to fly last a half a season or a full season. The writers, I think, have made Clark look very foolish by not having him in the process of trying to fly. He knows he can do it through Kara and Zod-Lex. Why wouldn't he want to add flying to his "bag of tricks?" It sure would have come in handy when the plane went down in the last episode.

I remember being so pysched for this series. "The Story of how Clark Kent became Superman -- It's going to Rock!". Who knew Seven Years would pass and the character would barely be any closer becoming SuperFuckingMan.

What I want to see is an episode where adult Kal-L from Earth-Two shows and and beats the snot out of Clark for some reason that does not need to be explained.

Or the Dark Knight Returns Superman shows up, looks Clark's at the crappy high-school love triangle with Lana and Lois, and rubs Clark's face in the fact that he'll outlive any human love interest, and then makes out with Wonder Woman just to drive Clark's dismal love life home, before suggesting that he give up on human women (and men if that floats his boat) and find an immortal Amazon demigoddess of his own.

And then Kingdom Come Superman shows ups up and beats even more crap out of him for being an indecisive half-wit.

The thing that makes me think that Chloe is going to kick the bucket is that when the Legion appeared they stated very clearly that there were no records of Chloe Sullivan in the future. I thought at first that was just Geoff playing around with the fact that she is a Smallville original character, but now maybe he was just foreshadowing. I'm thinking that the storyarc with Davis is going to turn out horribly wrong and result in Chloe's death at the hands of Doomsday that will force Clark to finally fly and maybe we will get some form of Superman next season. If that happens then maybe I will watch but we'll have to see. That's just a theory...

The Legion could just becoming from a different Earth where Chloe doesn't exist.

I'd rather see the season end with the classic Superman/Doomsday battle. Clark kills Doomsday but in the process dies himself. Chloe then turns on her healing powers and saves Clark since the world needs him, even though she knows saving Clark will be suicide.

That wouldn't be too bad.

Season ends with some CW pop song in the background, rain falling, and Clark crying over the death of Chloe.

Be that as it may, there is still no reason he shouldn't be flying by now. I have no problem with them not putting the suit on but in all other incarnations of Superman I can think of he started flying as a young teenager.

I mean Kara shows up on Earth and knows how to fly right away but Clark still can't figure it out? Come on!

I don't get the thinking process behind the denial to make him fly.

I mean Welling has done flying in the show before. Granted,he was possessed or something but it was flying.

And if it's such a big deal, have him learn to fly and then kind of ignore, don't use it. Like the super breath thing.
