So, I made this.

Sorry, nothing but a lump of coal for this thread until 2022 I’m afraid. (There IS a reason I asked @T’Bonz for “Professor Grinch” as my Christmas moniker, y’ know.) I’m just sitting here at the airport bar, waiting to catch my flight (and hopefully not a dose of omicron as a chaser) and just wanted to wish my Trek Art friends a very merry Christmas, seasons’ greetings, Fesivus for the rest of us, and what I sincerely hope is a better 2022! (I will also, as a New Year’s resolution, try to do better about finishing this stupid project I’ve been working on since the start of this century.)

Ah, so I guess I did have something to show. I double-checked, and somehow I never got around to posting this little quickie that I was working on in this post. Oversight corrected.
I think I've watched this four times now. Outstanding.

I would actually ask that you have the ship go by a little slower ... so that I may drool at all your lovely details!

You have made a spectacular model and an absolutely excellent short movie!

It may be one of the last times I publish something rendered in LW/Octane. I rolled this out for @Hunter-G as an example of “under lighting” the ship registry (an idea I discarded a while ago).

I will prolly start conversion of this model to Cinema 4D the first week of May, once I’ve finished the string of C4D training videos I’ve queued up for myself.

(edited to correct stupid spelling mistake)

Nice! Are the letters floating above the hull?

Yes. It was a very quick test that I had done about a year ago, which I re-rendered a few days ago for the @Hunter-G thread. If I had forged ahead with the concept, there would’ve been little bitty support arms holding up each character that would be visible if the camera was at a sufficiently oblique angle, and multiple light emitters (i.e. lightbulbs) underneath each character instead of continuous lighting strips to add more visual interest.

I’ll probably use the idea on something else someday, but I had already veered far enough away from the original appearance of the Enterprise and I decided that this was just a bridge too far.
