So, I made this.

Hi everyone, just a quick update and to say hullo.

This is a first attempt at producing an HDR image and then down-rezzing it to an RGB color space for viewing on the web. Still looks a bit dark, but I liked the image otherwise so I thought I’d post it since I’ve been absent the past couple of months (work has been hell and my partner and I are in the process of moving, which always sucks!). Hope everyone is doing well... may not have many posts for the next month or so until after I'm in the new place. LLAP!

Oh man! I hope your move goes well.

As for the image, that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks guys

After three years of renting and expecting the housing bubble to burst (so that I could swoop in and snatch a bargain--hey, my TrekBBS name is "Professor Moriarty" for a reason ya know  ;)), housing prices continue to defy all expectations even after six months of a pandemic. If anything, the real estate market in this area (Northern Virginia/suburban Washington DC) has gotten even hotter--I lost out on offers for three different homes before finally getting an offer accepted on the fourth. I did manage to find the last 2BR/2BA condo in an old-folks (55+) community that the builder was desperate to get rid of so they could close the project, so I at least got a bargain with all the upgrades the builder threw in to sell it. :techman: And since I detest moving, I'm not worried if the bubble bursts now, cuz when I move out of this home it will be via hearse.

I have to admit I'm really captivated by the look of the Enterprise in this shot. Thanks to the angle of the camera you don't see most of the interiors; only the beige-tinted light shining through the portals. To me, it's very reminiscent of the 11-footer sitting 40 miles away in the Smithsonian. :mallory:

OK, so first, an explanation.
  1. First I got COVID-19.
  2. Then my partner got it a day later.
  3. Then we both got sick. Felt like a bad case of the flu.
  4. Then I started feeling better after 13 days.
  5. Then my partner did not get better after 14 days, and instead got much worse. Pneumonia. Nearly killed him.
  6. Then it took a good solid month for him to fully recover. Me being his nurse probably slowed things down.
  7. Then my job started looking really shaky.
  8. And then it didn't.
TL;DR: Life got in the way, but I'm back!

And apparently with a vacationer.

Congrats on the recovery. Hope everything continues to improve for you two.
Great render (but, man, it is so embarrassing having FlyingTed rep my state.)

Just made my way through this thread for the first time. Thanks so much for sharing this amazing work! I know I'm not alone in dreaming of seeing the TOS ship rendered with this level of love and attention and a splash of that particular TMP-style realism. Like other have said, it brings back that excitement I felt for this stuff as a kid. Good luck with everything that's going on with your life, and thanks again!

This for me is the best rendered version of TOS Enterprise I have ever seen. Fantastic work!

Have you ever considered making it a little green like the restored Smithsonian model?

I think that like for many of us, the ship changes color for me depending on the memory/fantasy.

^^ I guess there are a lot of things to consider, do you want it to look like the real life model or screen accurate(ish) which can vary with the type of film and how you saw it broadcast, on NTSC or PAL, which means it could be diffent because of the way your TV was setup, I think going with your own memory/the way you see it, would be the best way to go.

my 2Eurocents
