Oh, Generations.
Cute story. Anyone remember the original DVDs for Generations? Both the single disc bare bones edition and the two disc collector's editions? They were known for not having the teaser or trailers for the film on the disc when every other Star Trek movie had them.
Now, why did they not have these
trailers on the discs? I can think of only one reason. Because the movie that the trailers were advertising for was
NOT THE MOVIE WE ENDED UP GETTING!
"In a distant corner of our galaxy, a
secret observatory is attacked"
- Yes, an outer space civilian run observatory has to be kept SECRET!
"and a mysterious ribbon of energy where past and future collide is
unleashed."
- Wait, wait. A secret space observatory somehow created the Nexus when it was attacked? Or did the observatory store the Nexus somewhere? What's going on?
"Now, the torch of adventure is about to be passed."
- Uh, you're about seven years too late. You see, there was this character named McCoy and he passed the torch on TNG's first episode. Also, TNG already ended their TV series run, so their best adventures have already been done.
"Full Disruptors!" *Klingon ship attacks the Enterprise D. Riker and Worf get flung around,
including Kirk!*
- Wait. Did this trailer try to depict Kirk on the Enterprise D when it was being attacked?
Kirk: "Let's go!" *Enterprise D warps out and escapes the shockwave.*
- So Kirk did something in the Enterprise D that allowed it to escape the shockwave? AWESOME! Too bad it wasn't in the freaking film.
Kirk: "Let's try and cheat death together"
*quick cut to Picard*
Picard: "Warp One. Engage!"
- Oh, trailer. You sneaky little bugger. You tried to make it look like Kirk told Picard that cheat line, didn't you?
Man, I want to see this movie.
