So I finally watched it...

Warped9 what did you think of Kirk's death did it annoy you?
In all honesty I thought it was sad. I wasn't angry really. For me it was a sad moment just as when Spock died in TWoK and they destroyed the Enterprise in TSFS. I was quite moved because Kirk is such a larger-than-life figure that many of us looked up to for so long.

It wasn't until afterward that I began to feel annoyed by the whole thing. Upon reflection I found the whole thing pointless. And for the record I thought wrecking the 1701D was also pointless, particularly when they replaced it with the 1701E-yuch.

Both events underline how thoroughly pointless the entire film was.

it was Data's emotion chip that was making him act more stupid I guess he wanted to be more human.

you'd think he'd have had the sense not to act like dummy. i mean, how long has he lived with humans? now that he can comprehend humour, he could have drawn on his past experiances of human humour.

Wasn't that the point? He's gone his whole life observing, and now that he's actually faced with having emotions, it was too much. He was meant to be annoying, he didn't have a lifetime to learn from true experience the social complexities of life.

You can observe many things over a lifetime while the actual experience is completely different and maybe even overwhelming. That was the point, and they obviously succeeeded, so much so that some don't seem to have noticed that!

you have a excellent point maybe I'm being harsh about this aspect of Generations at least not everything in the movie was bad. apart from killing off Kirk that wasn't right he shouldn't have died.

I pretty much agree with this. As bad as the movie was, I wouldn't have hated it if Kirk didn't die. I could have even forgiven the death of the Enterprise D.

Oh, Generations.

Cute story. Anyone remember the original DVDs for Generations? Both the single disc bare bones edition and the two disc collector's editions? They were known for not having the teaser or trailers for the film on the disc when every other Star Trek movie had them.

Now, why did they not have these trailers on the discs? I can think of only one reason. Because the movie that the trailers were advertising for was NOT THE MOVIE WE ENDED UP GETTING!

"In a distant corner of our galaxy, a secret observatory is attacked"
- Yes, an outer space civilian run observatory has to be kept SECRET!

"and a mysterious ribbon of energy where past and future collide is unleashed."
- Wait, wait. A secret space observatory somehow created the Nexus when it was attacked? Or did the observatory store the Nexus somewhere? What's going on?

"Now, the torch of adventure is about to be passed."
- Uh, you're about seven years too late. You see, there was this character named McCoy and he passed the torch on TNG's first episode. Also, TNG already ended their TV series run, so their best adventures have already been done.

"Full Disruptors!" *Klingon ship attacks the Enterprise D. Riker and Worf get flung around, including Kirk!*
- Wait. Did this trailer try to depict Kirk on the Enterprise D when it was being attacked?

Kirk: "Let's go!" *Enterprise D warps out and escapes the shockwave.*
- So Kirk did something in the Enterprise D that allowed it to escape the shockwave? AWESOME! Too bad it wasn't in the freaking film.

Kirk: "Let's try and cheat death together"
*quick cut to Picard*
Picard: "Warp One. Engage!"
- Oh, trailer. You sneaky little bugger. You tried to make it look like Kirk told Picard that cheat line, didn't you?

Man, I want to see this movie.

It was incredibly obvious to me that the "action on the bridge" shots of Kirk and Picard were spliced together - you can see the controls on the -B are quite different from the -D. I wasn't fooled. Movie trailers have been BSing people for decades.

But yeah, Kirk and Picard on the Enterprise together could have been awesome. They would have needed much stronger baddies than Soran and the Duras sisters, though.

It took me about a minute to get used to listening to that voice but those reviews are great. After the one for GEN, I went on to watch his reviews for INS and NEM.

His Insurrection review is gold. It make me think about the movie more in the first 10 minutes than in the previous 10 years, critically or otherwise.

Now where are the pizza rolls?

Too bad this was done in the day when you couldn't go online to watch trailers, critique and analyze them. All you had was the theater, and TV spots were even more vague.
