I was actually staying with Dave when he told me that he was planning, in Cold Equations, to kill off a certain character whom he'd created but whom I was the first to write. (I'm probably being overly circumspect about spoilers here.) So I had a certain amount invested in the character, and thus I was rather upset by the news. But I recognized that I had no proprietary claim over the character and it was out of my hands. It was his choice, his book, so I didn't argue.
And Dave did consult with me closely to keep The Body Electric consistent with things I'd established in Ex Machina, and was very open to my thoughts and suggestions there, so that more than made up for my disappointment about the other thing.
