I am not French but I lived there for a big part of my life. I know the country well. I think Macron is sincere. France is very interested in scientific research but being a small country, it lacks the resources that the US has. So, he knows that it would be to France's advantage to get smart American scientists to come over and work in France. They would share their knowledge and expertise with smart French scientists also working in those areas.

... and a lot higher still if you consider an economic power indicator like nominal GDP. Then it ranks 6th in the world. Only the US, UK, China, Japan, and Germany are more powerful in that respect. That's not exactly 'small' in my book.

Why wouldn't other countries want to court US scientists and buisness to move to them? Given the seemingly anti-science adminstration that the US has at the moment.

The last few months have been a disaster on for the US on the International stage.

No matter what his true intentions are, the overriding conclusion that I came away with is that the President of France is a thousand times more eloquent in English - not his native language - than the current occupant of the White House. It's downright embarrassing.

As for moving to France? Nah. I'll go to Spain. Was born and grew up there, still hold citizenship, and Spanish wine is far superior to French wine.

He is just trolling your president (who makes it very easy).
We already have difficulties to keep our own scientists, we can't pay the american ones.

If our own government is going to disrespect the conclusions of our scientists and even the field of science itself then why shouldn't currently more scientifically enlightened nations reach out to them? Even if it's only a symbolic gesture, criticism from the global community is exactly the kind of message our leaders and their supporters need right now. They have to know that their ignorant and harmful decisions have real consequences, and since they apparently don't believe in or care about the consequences of climate change, you have to hit them with even more immediate effects, like poaching our scientists. Sadly, our President is so woefully and deliberately ignorant that I don't think he'd even understand or care if our scientists started leaving the country in large numbers as a result of his actions.

Unless of course you a Trump/Tea Parter supporter then everything might be roses.

If our own government is going to disrespect the conclusions of our scientists and even the field of science itself then why shouldn't currently more scientifically enlightened nations reach out to them? Then perhaps the US environmental scientists should go to Europe and help with their emissions? Or poorer countries still polluting the world's atmosphere. Just because the US isn't part of an accord doesn't mean environmental measures cannot be implemented - I hope they are.

The problem for Trump, might come if his administration ever has to negotiate an International treaty, how good is America's word when the next President might simply decide to pull out of the treaty?

The question that climate change deniers don't want to answer is what if you are wrong? If the climate scientist have good it wrong what have we really lost aside? Some money spend on cleaner tech? Which at the bare minimum will likely have improved air qaulity in cities. Less dependance on fossil fuels which are a finite resource and won't last forever.

Come on President Macron sounded like a wuss. I was being sarcastic about the precious environmental scientists going to live in polluted Europe.. under the comfort of being part of an accord. I wonder how many will?
