So do you think you'd be "A" list material?

This evening I wrote out my Christmas cards. I bought lovely ones, some lovelier than others.
So I had to judge which cards to send to who. From "A" list to "E" list.

And I totally enjoyed an evening of judging my friends.

So there were 5 grades of cards...

Neighbours and workchaps "E" list ~ cheap little ones ~ easy (especially when you have forgotten neighbours names and just put 'to the lovely neighbours at no:22)

But then you get down to the expensive ones...
Obviously "A" list ~ anyone I've known for 20 years and still talks to me!
"B" list ~ anyone that buys the drinks when we go out... etc...

Does anybody else judge people to cards?
I also look at them and think "Oh that's totally so and so" and they'll love it!
Man said I was mad but I don't think men understand Christmas cards.
It took me so long because I have to put a personal message into each one.
I'm not mad am I?

Well, I don't have as many levels as you do, but I do send nicer cards to closer/older friends as well as family...and not as expensive cards to acquaintances, neighbors, etc. I mean, it just makes sense to take more care with old friends and family.

As for writing something in cards...well, I don't think I have ever sent a single card of any kind in my entire lift where I simply signed my name. To me, that is very impersonal...and in that case, there is no point in sending a card at all.

I have three levels of cards: relatives and loved ones who get the "to a Special Relative X"; premium ones which go to friends, and less prevmum ones that go to everyone else. I'm a bit of a Christmas card snob, but I counterbalance the cost by buying in the previous year January sales. Problem is that I usually forget I've bought and double dip!

I tend to do the more expensive ones to familiy and my partner, the cheaper ones for frends and the really cheap ones left over from last year I use for the other half's parents.
I normaly put a funny picture in with the cards as well

As to the question, yes, I am A list material. But that has nothing to do with Christmas cards.

I don't really grade those on my card list - but I do get more than one kind, and I try to match the card, more or less, to the recipient. To use an obvious example, I don't send heavily religious cards to my pagan friend - hers tend toward the "Peace during this festive time of the year" theme rather than the "Christ the savior is born" theme - and my old buddies tend to get funny cards rather than serious cards.

Oh, and coworkers tend to get smaller, cheaper cards, just because I have a fair number of coworkers and (like Valentines in elementary school) you kind of have to give to everybody or just a select few.

And I always buy in the after-Christmas sales. Always. I am not a particularly disciplined shopper, but that (and wrapping paper) is one thing I am disciplined about.

I don't send cards, and unless there is a check enclosed, I also don't particularly like receiving them. Waste of paper.

^ & ^^ Aw. I love them. 'Cause they're pretty. They can be a pain, of course, but it's a great opportunity to send and receive little notes from people you're fond of but don't talk to very often. And they're pretty.

A lot of the cards are to people far away that I don't see, so I tend to witter on a bit about what we've been up to. The writing ends up really small at the end where I try to fit everything in! But at least I don't do one of those dreadfull 'round robin' printouts of our year, mine are all handwritten and personalised.

Oh total Christmas card snob here too! It started as rivallry between just one friend and has escalated
I got 4 sets of beautiful ones from BHS in their pre-Christmas sale ~ £5 reduced to £2. So they ended up at 33p each but they are all furry, sequinned or 'with bits stuck on'. Totally worth it!

Yeah really there were only 2 grades ~ the fancy ones and I did try to pick ones suitable to the person and the little ones.

But you miss out on all the fun of spending an evening drinking Baileys and trying to still write legibly! I overdid the mulled wine one year and put the wrong husbands and children on. I now have a very clear and updated book!

Well then you are obviously not on the "A list" As JustKate says ~ they are pretty, and anything pretty is worth sending and receiving!

I sent a card to an old friend for years and years before I realised I'd got the wrong husband on the card! She's been married so many times that I cannot recall her husband's name and her new surname!

I'm also all for giving Holiday wishes, but I'd rather use the phone (or, in some instances, email).

"Pretty" is also a word I reserve for the ladies.
