So do you think you'd be "A" list material?

I don't think I've given Christmas cards since primary school. I do occasionally co-sign a card though, in that case we buy one bundle and everybody gets the same standard. It never occurred to me to categorise. What if your "E" listers somehow managed to find out what the "A" listers got? Awkward. :p

I'm reminded of the Yes, Minister episode where Hacker has to sign zillions of Christmas cards for various party members and other assorted characters. He gets given many separate piles of cards, and his Civil Service PPS explains:

"They're all clearly labelled. These you sign Jim. These you sign Jim Hacker. These, Jim & Annie. These are Annie and Jim Hacker. These, love from Annie and Jim. These, Mrs Hacker should write, and you should append your name. Those are printed. And those have cyclostyled signatures so you needn't write anything. Just check to whom they're being sent to make sure they're not going to people whom you should have sent a personally-signed card."

He starts signing and notices some are government departmental cards, and some are House of Commons cards. "Departmental cards bestow a slightly higher status than mere House of Commons cards, Minister." "Aren't people going to be offended at getting just HoC cards?" "No Minister, we've worked it all out carefully. For some people you can get away with a House of Commons card if you sign it Jim instead of Jim Hacker, or Jim & Annie instead of Jim & Annie Hacker, or add "with love", or sign it instead of cyclostyling, or...."

:)

Aw. I love them. 'Cause they're pretty. They can be a pain, of course, but it's a great opportunity to send and receive little notes from people you're fond of but don't talk to very often. And they're pretty.
I'm also all for giving Holiday wishes, but I'd rather use the phone (or, in some instances, email).

"Pretty" is also a word I reserve for the ladies. ;)

But you can't hang emails up to be admired... come to that you shouldn't really do that with ladies either...

I often discover that my name is on "a" list, yea... :shifty:

:shifty: ;) I don't know you and I will not talk unless notte_silente hangs me up!

Ahh, that's where logistics come in... *nods wisely*

See... Seemples :D

put the wrong husbands and children on.

I sent a card to an old friend for years and years before I realised I'd got the wrong husband on the card! She's been married so many times that I cannot recall her husband's name and her new surname!

 It's so easy to do ~ I had to facebook 2 friends last night to check on current surnames.

I feel quite boring that I still have the name I was born with :(

I would like to think I am 'A' list material since I get a fair amount of cards that are nice. :)

I do tend to give based on the personalities, but I can't afford to buy individual cards, so I usually buy in bulk several designs/sayings/etc. and then pick and choose.

Unfortunately this year, I haven't gotten around to handing them out, and hopefully I will, but time is quickly disappearing for me...:sigh:

Hoping you'll find the time to distribute them:).
I love finding cards on the mat when I get home. I'm starting my own crusade to get people to send more! And e-cards don't count :p

Most years I just don't do Christmas cards. They seem like a waste of money to me.

I posted mine today and went to an 'out of town' post office rather than brave the main one in town. Whilst I was putting the stamps on I realised that I was posting one to a house 100 yards away:rolleyes:

It's only a few pence and it makes people smile :)

Except when ~ and the Christmas Card snobs will agree ~ you receive a card like I did today which was SO small I'm amazed they found space to put my address around the stamp

I am too stingy to send Christmas cards.

Me too.

I promised two people cards this year, bought a pack and am now struggling to think as to who deserves the rest. Ive mentioned me sending cards on facebook and whoever calls dibs first, wins them.

Calls!
Will facebook you! ~ Have tried to no effect :(
Will pm you my address for my Christmas card for my Christmas Card sending Crusade!

I LOVE sending Christmas Cards and I love getting them too. It has become a solid part of my Christmas ritual. First, I get to carefully select a set of cards that I think fits my personality or tastes (usually a black and white photo or an art print). Then I get to write a little note to someone I care about. Hopefully when they receive it they will see the card as something that I put thought and time into and enjoy it. I know so many people and have such a large family that I couldn't possibly buy something for all of them. Sending a Christmas card allows me to send a little love and an acknowledgment that I thinking of them without robbing a bank.

As for receiving them, I get such a kick out it. You open the mail box and there it sits. Who is it from? What does it look like? What did they write? It is all very exciting. I also save the nicer ones I get from people. I have a box stuffed with them now. And when I had a house (my apartment is to small) I would set up a small skinny tree in the dining room and hang all my old Christmas cards on it. You just punch a hole in the upper left hand corner, tie small ribbon loop and then the card is ready to hang. It makes for a very very pretty tree while your dinner guests can see their old cards being displayed.

And to answer the original question, I don't split them out into grades like that. However, I will usually buy two different sets of cards, one funny and one that is artistic. I will split people up into which I think they would like best. Everyone at my house is A list, as am I. :D

Is there an "F" list? I just pile all the ones I get up on an end table until Christmas. After all the gifts have been opened, I open each one, look to see if there's anything inside of it and then toss the card in with the wrapping paper to be recycled.

I don't send any either.

That makes me sad :(

;)

Cards are funny things. You can't eat them, you can't wear them, you can't even pass them on...

Just teasing, K'Ehleyr. :D

Now that's creative recycling.

Gift tags, eh. My pressies have outdone themselves if I've remembered to put a bow on them.

Gift tags?! I just write their names directly on the wrapping paper with a Sharpie.

I'm a lazy ass when it comes to Christmas.

Oh and I baked a chocolate Christmas card especially for you

And they're still "pretty"!

I cut up my old cards and use the interesting bits as gift tags the following year. :D

Ditto!

So you can pass them on Offi :p

Okay, okay. I will admit it, Christmas cards are very useful and pretty things.

*Raises hands and walks slowly out of the room*

It's so unfortunate that we have now banned cheques and I can't send you one :(

If you still want a card thou, I do have a spare if you pm me! Or you could just hire a post box or have it sent c/o a pub or something ;)
