So, Disney buys DC Comics...

Let's just say, for the sake of discussion, that WB decides to sell DC Comics/Entertainment and Disney buys it.

What would this look like with regards to comics, animation, TV, and film?

This is one of the biggest nerd dreams of all, so dream big and share with us.

I don't have any specifics myself, but I think I'd definitely like to see stories pairing Peter Parker and Clark Kent in both identities. Same with Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark. Or how about Tony Stark and Lex Luthor butting heads?

There's the thought of epic Justice League/Avengers teams (or maybe one team, "The Justice League of Avengers?") and battles only previously dreamed of, like Hulk vs. Doomsday or Captain America vs. Deathstroke.

The one thing I wouldn't want is the "Amalgam" approach. That only managed to produce one really cool idea, IMO (Super Soldier) and would diminish the teams/characters/concepts being combined.

Worse than who has now, Marvel, DC, or both?

I personally think the NotSoSuperman of Man of Steel could use some lessons in being noble and heroic from Captain America. Maybe he could help Batfleck kick NotSoSuperman's ass in the courtroom drama, "Batman v Superman."

If such a scenario happened, I would count on another Crisis, and one crossing into the Marvel multiverse.

I'm sure there wouldn't be much of a difference at first. Like with Marvel, Disney would take a "hands off" approach to DC. That would include comics, TV and films in live action and animation.

I doubt you'd see an "Amalgam", since Disney would be interested in the established IPs, not some combos with Marvel.

DC. They've gone way overboard with this New 52 nonsense, and completely lost sight of what made their superheroes so popular in the first place. Far from rebooting, simplifying and clearing away all the decades of continuity barnacles, things are more convoluted and confused than ever. To say nothing of the behind-the-scenes editorial chaos that's got the company hemorrhaging creative talent and doing character/storyline spinouts with nearly every new issue. Trying to recast every single superhero in Batman's dark-gritty-n-depressed mold (like NotSoSuperman) ain't helping. Where's the fun?

Might be problematic since Parker has gotten out of the newspaper business.

Depends on how Lex Luthor superhero is going to go.

This assumes everything currently happening in the comics would be in play at the time of this acquisition.

I find Marvel much more of a mess. I've no interest in the X-titles, though I've been a fan since GS X-Men #1. The Avengers have too many titles and suffer from big ideas with poor execution.
 
Well, we'd have more than 2 live action properties that were actually interconnected. That'd be nice.
 
What would happen? The Big Red Cheese would finally get a title under his own name for the first time in 60 years.
 
If Warner were to do that for any reason, I would bet they would keep the film/television rights for dozens of characters. Perhaps with a deal like Sony and Fox, where they retain the rights as long as they use them.

I agree with you 100%. DC went off the rails with the New 52. I had (and still have) a much better solution to rebooting every twenty years or so, and I'll start another thread about it soon.
