No...? I enjoy authorial intent. It being on screen doesn't make it fit, even if it is part of the world.
So what part of the TR-116 and Houdini Mines doesn't make it fit Star Trek?
It feels completely inappropriate use of technology presented in the world. Might as well just beam an entire army away.
I loved Sulu's sword. Give me magical fold up stuff I can pack easily any day.
Still waiting for the day they cripple an enemy's shields and start mass beaming crew and essentual machinery off the enemy ship into space. Zero safeties, people being merged into said machinery as they're all scooped up and deposited... a true horror show.
There were Transporter & Sensor Jammers from both sides across the battle field, so you couldn't just beam into the enemy facility, you had to march in on foot the old fashioned way.
When you remove the most convenient ways to travel (Transporter, Air Lift, Mechanized Vehicle), you're left with the basics, marching towards the destination.
I'm sure the Jem Hadar had Transporter Scramblers if an enemy signal was to beam in, there molecular patterns would get scattered all over into individual atomic pieces.
I like everything so far. I especially like the Aenar dude. And Peck somehow looks a lot more like young Spock in that clip. Not sure if it’s the hairstyle or the uniform or something else, but I like it.

And some sufficiently advanced aliens doing something one time is, of course, the same thing as every character doing it all the time to resolve the conflict of the episode, right?

There is an argument, not substantiated as far as i know but published by one researcher that Napoleon may have invented the gas chamber, using a crude form of sulfur dioxide fumes to kill recaptured slaves during a Carribean slave revolt, in the holds of several ships.
Transporter tech has been overpowered compared to everything else in Star Trek, but it's as old as the series. It's the reason there's always a mysterious field that prevents beaming down, or you never see long distance beaming used much, unless you do, since Scotty apparently figured it out (no matter what happened to Archer's Prized Beagle). I think the TR116 episode was also showing just how dangerous the arms race caused by the Dominion War was becoming. Nothing develops new tech like pure desperation.

Napoleon has been vilified by the history books. Go to Paris today and you can visit his tomb in all it's glory.
You won't see that for Dictators. Unless they actually won and the nation is still in the grip of their ideology.
